Need help installing Windows7 on 8th Generation CPU

mrjimphelps

Which edition of Linux Mint do you recommend?

I run Linux Mint 64-bit, version 18.2, with the xfce interface. I have also tried 18.3 and 19.0, but I have had printer and/or scanner issues with those other versions.

My point in recommending Linux Mint as the host OS is because this will provide a reliable way to run (and update) Windows 7 on a brand new computer. The key is that you have lots of memory. You can then allocate a lot of memory to the Windows 7 VM, along with two or three cores (I believe that is what it is called). Also, if your Windows 7 VM profile is stored on a fast SSD (e.g. an NvME SSD), Windows 7 should run very fast. Finally, if your VM software allows for GPU passthrough, your Windows 7 will be able to use your souped-up video card.

Windows 7 will run very well in this scenario. The only possible glitch is the W7 license. If it is an OEM license, you may or may not be able to activate Windows in the VM. If it is a retail license, you will have no problem activating Windows in the VM.

windows 7 professional x64 bits in hp elitedesk 800 g4 mini pc

Hi everyone, my question is this, could you install windows 7 professional x64 bits on an hite elitedesk 800 g4 mini pc with a nvme hard drive, and intel q370 chipset?

I have a sysprep image, and the clone with acronis 2017, but when it starts it stays in the splash window and starts constantly ...

I have also tried to add the usb drivers, in an image with w7 but when I get to the point of choosing language, I do not have access to mouse or keyboard ...
Thanks for the answers in advance, greetings.

Hi kike30,

You need to integrate the drivers into the install.wim [boot.ini & install.ini]. There is a utility called 7UPDATER [written and created by SIW2] which will explain how to do this. It is discussed and explained in more detail here => Update your Win 7 installation media.

SIW2 has included the drivers for nvme in a zip format in post #1 of the thread above.

I hope this helps!

Thank you very much Paul Black, I have already integrated USB 3.0 drivers

in an image of w7 professional x64 bits, and I have not been able to start it, I will try with this updater, but the problem I have is that chipset needs usb 3.1 and they do not exist as I understand ...

Concerning the update tool referenced by SIW2 in the 2nd post, am I correct in thinking that this new laptop I have with Ryzen 3/Vega 3 apu still will not be helped?

I ordered it last week thinking I'd be able to do W7 on it, and after receiving it today and doing more research, I think I've figured out I'm out of luck.

I don't think win7 can work with apu.

maybe somebody will find a way - but after looking around - not yet, as far as I know.

Thank you for doing that research.

When I go here, and select the Ryzen and Athlon Mobile chipset:

AMD Drivers and Support for Radeon, Radeon Pro, FirePro, APU, CPU, Ryzen, desktops, laptops

The landing page lists only Windows 10 64-bit download:

AMD Ryzen™ and Athlon™ Mobile (Chipset) Drivers & Support | AMD

So, I don't know what to make of it.

In any case, I'm downloading the Windows 7 specific "AMD Radeon Adrenalin 2019 Edition Graphics Driver 19.4.3".

I will open it up and see what exactly is inside the package.

Have you got the most recent bios for your motherboard? Possibly a bios update is needed as well as the drivers. Not sure, but worth having a look to see if there is a newer bios for you.

Even if it is a "new" machine, there might be more recent stuff for it on the manufacturer website.

What is the machine and model number?

Have not turned it on yet. No point if a W7 install is not possible.
And it seems that AMD dos not offer chipset drivers for the Rysen 2200U or any of the Ryzen mobile APU editions.

I have downloaded several AMD chipset packages, starting with "AMD chipset-drivers-software-17.10-rcp22-apr27" thru "AMD Chipset Drivers April 22 2019 18.50.0422".

Opened them up - Ryzen 3 APU not present. Yes, there are USB drviers, but not chipset.

Also went through several of AMD's Radeon Graphics driver packages, including "AMD Radeon Adrenalin 2019 Edition Graphics Driver 19.4.3".

Yes, it appears to include Ryzen Mobile, but does NOT have the low-level chipset drivers - so seems pointless.

I also admit, I'm coming into this situation totally clueless.
