Need help please. (DNS Server)

I'm using a Windows 7 Laptop, and yesterday my ping was high so I flushed/renewed/released my DNS in CMD then my internet stopped working and it had an error saying "DNS Server not responding", everyone's else internet was working but not mine. I found a video on how to fix it and it told me to do this

(From Obtain Address automatically, to Use to following DNS server) then it ended up working. The thing is I can't access my router page anymore, nor can I play my Xbox online for some reason (I connect my Xbox with an Ethernet cable to my Laptop). When I try to put it back as "Obtain DNS automatically" it works for a minute then it stops so I have to switch it back.

Does anyone have a solution? I can go on TV for someone that's trusted.

You can set your computers DNS server to whatever you want to use. You can use 4.2.2.1 or 8.8.8.8. This should have no impact whatsoever on any other device on your home network, your Xbox, etc.

I can't access my modem admin page on "Use the following DNS Address", but I can on Obtain automatically and Xbox Live still won't connect. It was working fine before I did all the flushing and stuff.

Hi Doped, it doesn't matter how your computer is set for DNS, you must have the settings you want to use in your router.

Changing your DNS server does NOT make your internet faster. It "could" improve the lookup times for domain names, but once it has the domain name, your speeds will remain constant to the actual web server itself.

The only time that has ever happend to me was when there was some kind of Virtual WiFI Adapter enabled in the network devices. Disableing it fixed the problem. I don't have that computer anymore.
