Solved Need help recovering user data

So, my corporate desktop was originally assigned to me with the previous user's login information. Today, when an error was discovered on the account, the IT dept, via T.V., decided to add a new account with my information. I asked why he didn't just change the UN + PW for the existing Login that I was already using. He said that he could not do that. Now, I was able to move all of my User folder data over, but all existing Logins(Citrix) and Firefox data is no longer working. How can I recover this from the other account? Or is possible, as I originally asked, to just change the previous UN + PW Login information in the registry for the previous account.

Hi James -

If you can find the location where Citrix, Firefox and any other missing program data is stored (I ask Google) in the old account, you can bypass permissioning using Copy & Paste - in Windows Recovery Console or Paragon rescue disk to recover data.

Then often you can just paste that data into the exact same folder>file in new account.

I've been able to retrieve any data this way except encrypted.

I tried the copy and paste method. I was able to restore most of my things, such as desktop, files, pix, dox, etc. But all of the links for Citrix are dead now, as well as the Firefox settings and saved tabs and passwords. These two programs do not save their data in the Users folder. I think it has to do with permissions in the directory path for the user. I will see what the other method you offered brings. There are no permissions I've ever seen when you copy out files from boot as the files are inert of OS restrictions.

What you need are the Program Data or User Appdata folder locations for Firefox and Citrix data you need. Someone may know or google should yield it.

Thanks Greg. I had to manually rebuild everything. It would seem that when the person was setting this up, he deleted everything from the old account, only leaving the folders. I'm assuming this deleted all of the registry entries for the old user. That would make sense as to why the files not stored in the user folder were then dead.

Question though. Is it possible to change the Username and Password for a user account?

Change Username/password at Control Panel>User Accounts. The original owner which was set up at installation or OEM setup will not change in all places due to obscure MS Security precautions.
