Need help regarding RAM upgrade

Hi guys!

I have G31 chipset motherboard and have 1.5 GB DDR2 667 MHz RAM currently (1024MB x1 + 512MB x1).

I am planning to upgrade my 512 MB chip to 2 Gb but the problem is that DDR2 667 MHz is not an option for me right now and only DDR2 800 MHz is available.

So the question is really simple: Will I be able to run 1 GB DDR2 667 MHz and 2 GB DDR2 800 MHz simultaneously with the 2 GB module running at under clocked 667 MHz mode?

go to RAM Memory Upgrade: Dell, Mac, Apple, HP, Compaq. USB drives, flash cards, SSD at Crucial.com and run the system scanner. It will tell you what you have , what you have room for , and even give you very good prices on ram.

As far as I know, you can run them both, but they will both run at the 667MHz speed. But it really depends upon the motherboard and chipset -- some are more finicky than others -- where you might get away with that on one mobo and might have problems on another mobo. Try it and see. The worst that would probably happen is that you won't POST.

Having said that, it would probably be beneficial to run only the 2GB stick until you can find another matching stick.

I see that the Crucial website just stores all the motherboard's memory specifications, and gives me which of their sticks I can use.

I know my motherboard's specifications, just want to know if anyone's tried running different timing RAM sticks on their systems.

I will be taking the 2 GB stick and trying it out... worst case would be that I will have to run only the 2 GB stick which would still be an upgrade from my current situation... though the only -ve aspect is that DDR3 is available and I am purchasing DDR2.
