Hi All.
I have "Generalized" a windows 7 HDD for transplant into my new system.
(Ryzen 7200, Gigabyte gaming 5 WiFi MB)
The HDD goes into WIN 7 setup and of course I have no USB for mouse and Keyboard.

Since I am not using an image, ISO or fresh disk install, how and where can I insert USB drivers
into the existing HDD.

I tried putting the HDD into the old computer and running the USB creator but it came back with no compatible hardware and stopped.
I have also tried all the XCHI ECHI and USB legacy suggestions in the BIOS with no luck.
Emailing Gigabyte was useless too.
I have no PS2 ports.

Any Help would be great as I am dead in the water at the mo and I reeeaaallly don't want windows 10 :sick:

TIA.
Darren.

If I am not using an windows Image but rather a generalised HDD - how does DISM help?

You can run dism++ from another OS - including winpe - point it at the windows partition on the generalized HDD.

It is included in the winpe boot media I have already made.

17514x86.iso
17514x64-v10.iso

You can extract ithe above linked iso file to bootable usb stick using rufus or usb7ice
View attachment Usb7ice.zip

Obviously, you will have to boot the usb up on a machine with generalised HDD attached.

Hey.
Would it be possible to get a few more instructions on these please.
I pointed DISM to the HDD and it wanted to restart my pc but I am a little unsure of it. The pc I am using now is win7x32. is that going to be ok? where does it get the USB drivers from?

The USB7ICE.... when I check add files and click the folder button, it opens explorer but there is no add button. How do I select the files to add??

Thanks for the help.

1. create bootable usb:

Browse to the iso

Leave the default settings ( fat32)

click copy iso to usb

when it has finished you can copy anything else you want onto the usb, using windows explorer.

2. Add drivers with dism++:

Start dism++

Click the OS in the top pane you want to work on ( it will then highlight in blue)

Click Open Session

Click Drivers in left Pane

Click Add button and browse to the folder containing your drivers. They need to be unpacked, you can't add drivers if they are .exe format. They need to be .inf, .cat and .sys files

You can use 7zip to unpack any driver executables (exe files ) you have downloaded.

Man It feels so close but so far.

DISM++ keeps error-ing every time I point it to the driver folders from Gibayte for my MB.

I booted off the USB stick with your image ok and have mouse and keyboard but how does this help me with the setup on the HDD?

So while in bootX I ran DISM, pointed to the HDD,drivers, usb drivers and added from the the driverstore on the USB stick. It successfully imported the drivers but the HDD still boots with no USB.

:cry::cry::cry::cry:

Sounds like you didn't add the correct drivers. What does device manager tell you?

Hi SIW2.

Firstly thanks so much for your help. Really the only help I have received.
I applied these drivers and I can see them in the device manager for BOOTX.
In DISM I removed the USB drivers and reapplied just these. As a cleanup of sorts.

I want to check something with you to ensure we are on the same page.

Because I have generalized the HDD, when my new setup boots to the HDD, it initializes windows setup. So my first screen is language and region setup.
Somewhere during this process up to this point it needs to load USB drivers I presume. So is there somewhere more specific to setup rather than just the windows disk that those drivers need to be referenced?

It should happen while there is the on screen message "installing devices"

You can run msinfo32 >components>problem devices. Then click file>export to export the ID of problem devices to a text file.

That ID can be used to find any missing drivers by searching the net.
