Hi first time poster

Full specs: MSI Z68a-GD80 i5 2500k Gtx680 Asus Hitachi Deskstar 1tb (boot) KingstonSSD120gb (games)

So last night I shrunk my HDD partition by 100gb, intending to dual boot W8. Never got round to installing it, but when I turned on my PC tjis morning it won't boot. It shows the manufacturer logo then goes to a black.screen with a blinking underscore

I decided to try putting in my W7 disk in to repair, but it starts loading windows filesthen givesme an error about not bring able to communicate with a device.0xc0000009 I think. I thought my HDD might be the issue, but it does it also when my HDD is unplugged and just my SSDpluggedin

Worried my PC is bricked at this point cause I can't boot or repair from disk. Advice appreciated!

Try a linux boot disc and see if you can change the partition size a tiny bit with that. Gparted is your best bet:

GParted -- Download

If you can, that may fix the error.

Is the HDD or SSD detected in BIOS setup when each is plugged in? Remember to power down to plug or unplug each to mobo.

What app did you use to shrink C? Did it complete successfully and reboot to the OS after shrinking?

You'll need to get your Win7 disk or System Repair Disk to boot: How to Boot A Computer from CD or DVD - YouTube

Then with only Win7 drive plugged in, confirm that 100mb System Reserved (if you have it) or C is Partition Marked Active (Option Two) then run Startup Repair - Run up to 3 Separate Times. Report back results.

I think I'm having a similiar problem. I recently tried to install Ubuntu beside Win 7, then decided to delete the partition it was on, and allocate the free space to my main partition that Windows is on. Well, I was able to boot windows the first time, but after experiencing crashing Windows programs and general bugginess, I restarted, and was unable to boot Windows. Ran repair, and it was unable to repair. I tried using the Windows cd but I got a corrupted file error. Any help would be appreciated.

Start your own thread if u need more than this:

With only Windows 7 drive plugged in, confirm that 100mb System Reserved (if you have it) or C is Partition Marked Active (Option Two) then run Startup Repair - Run up to 3 Separate Times no matter what it reports.
