Sorry if this question has been answered before but I downloaded Win 7 x86 from my school website and saved it on a clear partition. I am trying to burn a disc but I am new to this. I read I might need power iso to extract files? I burned a disc but I guess i did not specify boot and it did not work. I have a 2gig file ( Win 7) downloaded on my hard drive and I am lost. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Is the downloaded file an .iso file ? Use Free program ImgBurn to burn the .iso to a DVD at 4x speed. Then set bios to boot from DVD drive to install.

Buddy, I've been having the same problem tonight...we downloaded an ISO from MSDN!

I'm seriously kicking myself. I thought it was just a 7zip archive and I've been spending all this time (after extracting the files) looking for the best way to make those files into a disk.

They're just ISO files which can be burnt to disk, as-is, using tools like PowerISO, ImgBurn and others as you are not limited to burn size/speed with trail software.

The software will open up the ISO and show a directory structure just like explorer, this is how the disk will be burnt. You just then need to click 'burn' as the ISO is already bootable.

Hope this helps :)

I think if you have 7 zip or similar installed it will put it's icon on .iso files - giving the impression it needs extracting.

If it is an .iso ( go to folder options and make sure file extensions are showing) - use any burning program to "Burn as image" , as Tews pointed out.

Burning it as data doesn't retain retain the necessary file structure for it to remain bootable.

You could use this - the only thing it does is burn .iso images:
