Need Help with Bootcamp Dual boot with windows 7

im having a problem on my macbook w/ mac os x 10.4.9 and installed windows 7 via campboot.... but after i finished the installation and restarted it while holding down the option key, it wont show the selection of operating systems instead, i got this password box........ i also cannot boot back to my mac os and also on my dvd even pressing 'C' button (seems any boot key combinations are not working coz i got no apple logo and no chime sound at startup)... but it can load to windows 7.... what will i do.. im out of ideas... having no luck with boatloader easybcd....

i inserted ubuntu 10.04 and boot from there... i navigate to disk utility and i can see there the hs+ partition of my mac... i itried to fsck that drive but i just can't coz its journaled enabled and i can't disabled it through my mac coz as i said i cant boot to it..... i really need help guys..

Hi, before I start an I ask for a couple of pieces of info from you.

1) The Exact model of your Macbook (eg Late 2008 like mine) including rough specifications (processor, RAM, Hard Drive etc.).

2) What version of Windows 7 (Home Premium, Pro/32bit, 64bit) and what you used to install it (Bootcamp 3.1, 2.0 etc.).


It sounds like you've managed to password protect your EFI (Mac equivalent of a BIOS) which I can't help you with at this point in time, if you've set this up before try and remember the password.

The lack of a chime on startup could either suggest that you've muted it (using the volume controls on startup) or that something is quite badly wrong (probably the first one though). Try unmuting/turning the volume up during startup and seeing if anything happens. This will help us diagnose the problem.

Being unable to boot into your OS X install DVD is strange if you can boot into, Linux Live CDs.

Try booting into your OS X install disk again using the key combos; sometimes these things miraculously fix themselves.

Make sure nothing is plugged in to your Mac except the power cable if needed.

Post back with any results.

I cannot validate this, but it seems to make sence.

here are the specs
2.16GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
4 gb ram

and some other info
model name : MacBook
model identifier: MacBook2,1
Boot ROM Version: MB21.00A5.B07
SMC Version (system): 1.17f0

i used Windows 7 Professional 32bit

the password of that EFI thing can't be remembered anymore coz it's my boss' macbook that he gave me and he don't remember the password.

thanks millermayhem for that useful info coz i really don't know what version of boot camp i used...

actually at this point, im able to boot my mac os thru ubuntu 10.04 LUCYD LYNX GRUB BOOTLOADER and there are 4 choices (on grub bootloader text mode):
ubuntu
mac os 32 bit
mac os 64 bit
windows 7 32 bit
but when i try to boot to the 'mac os 32 bit' i only got stack to a white screen
i can only boot to 64bit mac os and the way it boot was somewhat how the ubuntu loaded w/o flashimg(i mean there are lot of text going all the way down on my screen) before the white screen appears (without logo and chime) and continue to the mac os desktop.

after i got into my mac, i inserted the Mac OS install disk and tried to run Firmware Password Utility but unfortunately i got this error message "Your firmware is too old for Firmware Password Utility to run".

i also tried to run boot camp assistant from the installed utilities on my mac and got this error message "Boot Camp Assistant cannot be used > you must update your computer's Boot ROM firmware ...."

what i did was to run the software update and updated my system.. after which i have now 10.6.4 and boot camp version 3.0.1.... i tried to run again those applications but i got the same error messages. there are 4 updates available and were installed. i dunno what exactly... i want to boot my mac os as default coz the boot process was not the way it was before. when turning on the macbook, i got only white screen without logo and chime afterwhich, the screen turns black with a blinking cursor on the upper left corner and the grub bootloader appears....i still can't boot from the mac os install disk... key combos are not still working as well.. i also check the sound from the system preferences and found out that there is no output devices found on my system...

I'm glad you've at least found a workaround, I don't know how to change EFI passwords which is really what the next logical step should be.

I would recommend that you post over at Apple - Support - Discussions - Forum Home and ask about how to change the password and sort your Mac generally, there are many more Mac experts on there than on 7 Forums, so your problem should be solved relatively quickly.

yeah i thinks its the only way i can dual boot mac os and windows 7... il have to go to the nearest iStore to have them reset it.... thanks sir for the rply....
