Need help with constant freezing.

Hey everybody, I know I'm not the only one with this problem but I've looked everywhere for a fix with no luck at all. I'm having a problem with Windows 7 constantly freezing on me for no reason at all. I must be missing something very important, because I'm extremelly confused as to why this is even happening.

Here's the run down of my scenario:

Windows 7 x64 Build 7000
Nvidia 8600M GT 512
Laptop Model- MSI GX700
Intel Core 2 Duo 2.5 T9300
4G DDR2 RAM
Video Driver Version 7.15.0011.6761

My biggest concern is WoW, the game fully loads before completely locking up, forcing me to restart. I think it might have something to do with my video drivers.

I've reformatted a few times to try and fix my problem, and currently I have not manually installed any drivers, I have gone by everything windows update has given me. I tried the repair installation fix but that did not help as well. Is there anybody that can walk me through this?

Hi Gebz and Welcome to our Forum!

There is the 179.48 driver for your card at Nvidia so you're quite a bit behind, I would start there of course and also check for any other updated drivers at the MSI site.
Not all drivers are available thru Update. It's expensive to get the MS certification andf many companies still avoid that so stay up to date at the maker's site instead.

Thank you for the link, It's a nice start and I'll see where I can go from there. I'm sure I can get the drivers I need, I was just worried about them not being compatible or anything.

What do you think the reason behind all of the lock ups are? Video drivers?

To answer your question without sounding like a jackass, let me use an analogy - your question is akin to asking a mechanic why your automobile keeps randomly stopping. There are any number of causes for that, as there are with your lockups - it could be a faulty hard drive, bad drivers (and there, again, is a whole shebang of things because Windows loads lots of drivers on boot), faulty RAM, a bad PSU, a bad motherboard, a bad BIOS, a short on your system (particularly on USB), underpowered USB devices from your motherboard....

The list goes on and on - and without some expert diagnostics on your system it would be unwise for anyone to say that a single factor is the cause of your troubles.

That being said, it is quite possible that is part of the problem, but it could also be that the video card is simply not able to handle it, or that your machine needs a thorough cleaning, or that you have too many other things running, thereby not allowing enough shared RAM to be accessible to the video card....

I don't like sounding like an idiot in the dark asking stupid questions all the time, but I ask that only because I have seen other cases similar to mine. I was hoping for a quick easy fix, something like "Oh hey, why is my red lego brick not accepting the blue brick", then the other would reply "Oh I've seen this before, you need to update the red brick's BIOS and slap some butter on it". But it looks like this is more complicated than it looks and I'm working on that right now. I'm just curious about if there are any drivers that work better on Windows 7 or if there are known conflicts.

It`s only because of your video driver. Go to NVIDIA & Laptop News | Latest NVIDIA drivers and related news | laptopvideo2go.com, and download latest driver, and modified .inf, and the problem vill disapear.
I have the saqme configuration, and using WIN7 build 7127 for 2-3 weaks, and NO problems with freezing, driovers, etc. It`s running better then Vista SP2.
