Dare I suggest Dell? If they're good for nothing else, you can rely on Dell for parts, and you can count on them being unique to Dell much of the time... a ribbon connector won't cost much...

its just the slot that the cable fits into that needs replacing. i'm sure that he has tried dell and they don't supply them ahah.. typical dell.

Saying "typical Dell" is somewhat of an oxymoron... they're famous for using parts nobody else does... hence getting spares is fine, as long as you choose Dell as the supplier; every time... and if that means you need a new mainboard or keyboard just to get a port socket, hey... that's fair enough! ;)

The keyboard cable plugs into the "System board". Documentation
You probably need to replace the entire board. Documentation

The boards can be found refurbished on ebay and new on Amazon. I was able to find them in the US. They may be harder to find in your area, though.
