I just bought a used laptop that has Ubuntu OS but I want to go back to use Windows 7 instead. It came with Windows 7 but the previous owner installed Ubuntu. I press F8 and nothing happens. Does that mean I have to buy Windows 7 and intall it myself? I have a Toshiba Satellite L455. Thanks for the help

Is there a "Certificate Of Authenticity" sticker anywhere on the PC, possibly in the battery case?

If there is and you can read the 25 character "Product Key" found on that sticker, you don't have to buy another Windows 7 license. You would just go to mydigitallife.info, download the Windows 7 ISO that corresponds to your sticker, burn it to a disc, install it, and activate with that Product Key.

If you don't have a Certificate Of Authenticity with the Product Key, you may be out of luck---unless the previous owner has the Product Key or a Windows 7 disc with Product Key.

Did you get any disc's or paperwork with the laptop ? If you go to the Toshiba website and find your model you may be able to find out how to do a recovery to factory settings, that would take it back to Windows 7.

Is the Product key label still on the machine, either on the bottom or under the battery, you will need that probably at some stage.

If the previous owner can't tell you the product key, your best move may be to follow Joan's advice and contact Toshiba--either website or by phone.

They may be able to provide (free or for a price) a set of "recovery disks" that will restore Windows 7.

Normally, the Toshiba would have a partition on it that would restore Windows 7, but the Ubuntu installation may have wiped that partition out.

Wait for more comments.

Windows 7 Home Premium is occasionally on sale for as little as $80 if you have to buy again.

yeah the person I bought it from doesn't have the product key

If you contact Toshiba, be sure to tell them that you cannot read the Product Key on the sticker.

I think the recovery disks they may sell you do not require a Product Key from that sticker.
