Need instructions on flashing BIOS in DOS mode

I've read a few posts on how to flash my BIOS safely from DOS, however the readme file that I obtained from the manufacturer says "Please update bios under DOS mode by clicking "kaw6100.bat". What exactly is going to happen when I do this? Do I create a bootable USB with the files added and then click "kaw6100.bat"? I'm obviously a bit nervous, as I want to get this right and really don't want to brick my laptop. Any suggestions?

I'm using an Acer Aspire 5515 laptop if that helps. I entered all my specs when registering, but I'm not sure if other members can see them. If you need any other specs, please let me know.

You should create a bootable USB DOS drive. http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/46707-ms-dos-bootable-flash-drive-create.html

And copy your bat file to it. Boot and run the bat file. It will do the rest, just follow on-screen instructions.

May I ask why you want to flash your BIOS?
It is not without risk and if something goes wrong, you endup with a paperweight

It this flash is only a minor upgrade, I would not try this.If it is something you absolutely need, give it a try.

hardware issues

I have a few hardware issues that I've been unable to resolve. The first is when I try to upgrade my RAM (checked the specs with crucial.com), when I install the RAM stick, my computer will not boot up. The power light and fan turn on but nothing else. I've checked both sticks in the first slot, and they are working fine, but for some reason the second slot is having issues. Second, I am unable to burn CD's. I have swapped in a known-good CD burner and still got the same results. I have even worked with the burner's manufacturer to try to resolve the problem, but no dice. And third, I have been unable to install any version of Linux due to BIOS erros.

I am definitely nervous about reflashing the BIOS, but there seem to be so many hardware related problems that I am up against the wall. And the only instructions given in my BIOS download readme file are "Please update bios under DOS mode by clicking "kaw6100.bat". I'm wondering if I should just click on that file, or how I should go about it.

Probably should address some of the issues a little more,
Disk burning I don't see how bios would mess that up :/

Loading Linux well I'm sure that is probably a secure boot dooda...
A little more history on the machine would be nice.
