Hi all Need New Antivirus in 16 days from now 25/02/2015 ...... been using bit defender 3 licences this last year, was ok but was not impressed to be honest, the idle scan turned off daily, and generally seemed too bloated with stuff I don't need, always have copy off free malwarebytes, is this any good as a normal stand alone antivirus ?? ...... some of the magazines I been reading off late really favour kaspersky antivirus in there reviews any one used lately ?? bit dear for 3 licences but cheep for one

any advise comments welcome cheers

Malwarebytes is not an antivirus, it looks for other bad stuff. It is great if used in conjunction with Avast or Panda,

cool but works good how ? just curios? I mean what would be the advantage of having full program ? .... and wouldn't it work great with other main stream antivirus products ? ...... did u have a opinion on your favourite antivirus product ? thanks for your input

The full program of Malwarebytes works like an anti virus, it will stop the bad stuff. With the free version, malware will not be stopped. You scan once a week, you find what is on your hard drive and it will be removed.
My favorite antivirus program is malwarebytes when used with Avast or Panda, both are free.

The two antivirus that I mentioned get good ratings on finding virus and they have a small footprint, which means when they are running they will not use much resources, such as memory etc.

All the free versions require that you keep it up to date yourself. If your daughter does not do that well, she must have a paid version

That's right. It did.

Anti-virus apps are largely a matter of personal preference. Opinions vary widely. Some people place more value on published reviews than others.

Stick with one of the better known applications that you understand, can live with, and will keep updated and running properly. One that fits your budget. Kaspersky, Norton, MSE, Bit Defender, Avast, etc. I wouldn't agonize over which one.

Any of them will work well in conjunction with Malwarebytes, which searches for different things. The paid for version of Malwarebytes is I think about $20 per year and protects in real time, preventing stuff from entering your PC. The free version does NOT protect in real time, but will scan on demand. Sounds like you need the paid version.

Malwarebytes used to have a lifetime license. You paid once and it could be had for as little as $15. But a year or so ago, they went to a "subscription" model where you pay every year. Too bad.

I think the current paid version is called Malwarebytes Premium.

I used Avast for a long time but about a year ago I started getting popups several times a day to purchase the full version I just got tired of the popups and changed to Avira Antivirus and I personally like it better.:)But that's just me.

Ditto on MSE. I run the free MBAM weekly and Emsisoft EK occasionally for a deep check. Nothing ever shows up but I'm not a very active "downloader" and I don't share PCs or click on every link presented to me. One item of interest may be the fact that MS IE 10 & 11 catch almost 100% of the Socially Engineered Malware (SEM) attempts and leads all other browsers by a wide margin. This is part of the reason MSE, if even included in the tests, ranks lower than the rest of the billboard AVs. Microsoft's security is primarily OS and browser based and the AV reviews simply ignore it. Most of the tests use old data for MSE or copy from other slanted tests. When used with IE and UAC, MSE pretty much blows all the other AVs off the chart. Perhaps that's why it's not included with tests or leave portions out. :)
