Building a new system. Win 7, 64 bit. No gaming, no over clocking. Need some help on picking some quality memory sticks. Want the best and the most possible for my system. New Egg link please. There are a lot of choices, I just don't want to waste my money on something that won't work up to it's full potential. Here's what I plan on using : GIGABYTE GA-Z170X-UD5 (rev. 1.0) LGA 1151 Intel Z170 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.1 USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard. Intel Core i7-6700 8M Skylake Quad-Core 3.4 GHz LGA 1151 65W BX80662I76700 Desktop Processor Intel HD Graphics 530. Thanks for the advice. B-72

Anything on this (select 'America') list is guaranteed compatible for that board.

And I would have to recommend no less than 16GB.

Otherwise... you should aim for a lower CAS latency/timing over a higher Mhz (if you have to chose between the two due to cost factors). Low CAS latency/timing and higher Mhz, on the other hand, would be 'best' (but you will pay a hefty premium for that). Then again, if you're not gaming or doing anything graphically-intensive (video editing/encoding etc. etc.), then these factors truly won't make a significant impact to justify the higher costs of "the best". You won't see any of that 'better' performance outside of benchmarks, in other words.

Lists are often wrong or don't include all brands,
Which the last link you posted is 2133 MHz the minimum for your board is 2400 MHz
The 2666 MHz runs at 2133 by default but you can adjust it to use all 2666 but you don't or plan on gaming so it's all good with the default HMz.

But if you want the minimum MHz that would be ddr4 2400

Whatever you do, look at the specs of all the brands you come up with, take your time and get what you need and get the best you can afford.

Any posts or links you can direct me to on adjusting the MHZ? This would be a new one for me. I would think in the BIOS. Thanks for the patience ;)

It`s a simple process of going into the bios and either setting the ram timing manually or using an XMP profile already setup by the ram manufacturer.

The DDR4 I just bought for my Z170 is advertised at 2666 MHz, but when installed it runs at 2133, I simply go into the bios and choose XMP profile #1, then save and exit the bios.
They also have a 2nd profile which runs at 2800 MHz, an added bonus for free (so to speak) :)

Most overclocked memory has to be set manually in the bios, totally normal.

Hi,
Here's a screen shot from Steve's oc,
The DRam is where you can increate to the amount the ram comes as for the full amount,
I would not oc 2133 to 2400 but if you want to make 2400 actually use that then that would be more reasonable,
But if you are not benchmarking or gaming oc'ing your ram makes little sense :/

That`s up to you, Mike think there`s no sense in running your ram at it`s rated speed.

I say there`s no sense buying high speed ram if your not going to use its full potential.

And compare the price with Corsair, if Newegg charges you tax, you`ll pay more for the same thing.

Site Search

You have to add each item to your cart at each website and get the final total to compare.

I mean if you only wanted to run your memory at 2133 etc you could get GSkill much cheaper.

2133 MHz

G.SKILL Ripjaws 4 Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 2133 (PC4 17000) Memory Kit Model F4-2133C15D-16GRR - Newegg.com

And 2400 MHz is even $10 cheaper then that.

G.SKILL Ripjaws 4 Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 2400 (PC4 19200) Memory Kit Model F4-2400C15D-16GRR - Newegg.com

And for $30 more then the 16 GB Corsair set, you could get a full 32 GB set of GSKill 2400 MHz

G.SKILL Ripjaws 4 Series 32GB (4 x 8GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 2400 (PC4 19200) Desktop Memory Model F4-2400C15Q-32GRK - Newegg.com

I just believe the system is better capable to adjust needs as you use resources
Also many bios have features to overclock safely
My x99 asus board has "EZ Tuning Wizard" that will adjust everything not just the ram
Last I used it increased everything 20% with very little interaction or guess work from me
I just answered a few questions to the wizard and boom I was overclocking :)

Liquid cooling on the cpu is recommended to oc and of course more than adequate fan ventilation is also recommended ;)

Simply surfing the internet does not require using ram at full speed :D
