My original motherboard was replaced with a MSI X58 Pro-E. This motherboard does not support SATA-3 as are my hard drives.

Is there a SATA-3 card that would work in one of the below slots at the SATA-3 6GB/sec?

Slots
• 3 PCI Express gen2 x16 slots
- two dark Blue PCIE x16 slots (PCI_E2 &PCI_E4) support up to PCIE x16 speed, one Blue PCIE x16 slot(PCI_ E5) supports up to PCIE x4 speed
- supports ATI® Crossfire™
• 2 PCI Express gen1 x1 slots
• 2 PCI slot, support 3.3V/ 5V PCI bus Interface

Would like to get back to being able to get the SATA-3 speed and is there any cards that you may recommend?

I upgraded an older PC with a Sata 2 motherboard with only 2 sata ports using an Asmedia ASM106x card. Plugged into a PCI Ex1 slot to give me 2 additional sata ports. Although the card claims Sata 3 capability I could only get Sata 2 speeds on an SSD. This post seems to support this
SSD SATA 3 ON SATA 2 Motherboard - SSD - Storage
I ended up hanging the SSD off the motherboards sata 2 and using the card for a spinner.

Good news: this type of card is pretty cheap and even though the SSD sequential R/Ws were down, the 512k, 4k R/Ws made a huge difference to the PC's performance..

My hard drives are independent. I have three SATA-3 drives, C is for programs, D is for Data, and E is for whatever. I use a external USB drive for backups. Depending on $$$, I would like to put the three internal drives on a SATA-3 card, but may have to settle for only two.

I am using only one of these slots for my video card but I am unable to understand if there is a SATA-3 card that could be used in one of the remaining of these gen2 slots?
3 PCI Express gen2 x16 slots - two dark Blue PCIE x16 slots (PCI_E2 &PCI_E4) support up to PCIE x16 speed, one Blue PCIE x16 slot(PCI_ E5) supports up to PCIE x4 speed

Your hard drives don't saturate SATA II speeds, and have no need for SATA III ports.

Thank you for the reply but could you explain what that means?

My previous motherboard, the ASUS P6X58D-E, that did support SATA3, seemed to be faster since similar tasks today are taking much longer, so I would appreciate some more info or direct me to a place where I can learn.

I have Seagate 7200.14 SATA III drives, and neither of them get past 175 MB/s and the theoretical max of SATA II is 300 MB/s. As far as I know, no mechanical hard drive can reach the upper limits of SATA II speeds. If everyday tasks seem slower, it more than likely isn't because your drives are on SATA II ports. Do you have them in the Intel SATA ports, or the 3rd party ports? You should check your motherboard manual if you aren't sure.

I have hung Seagate 7200.12 Sata 3 1TB HDDs off my ASUS P8Z68 Deluxe Intel Sata 3 ports and it make no difference to speed. Just because the HDD is Sata 3 port compatible makes no difference. In fact the Sata 3 labeling on these Seagates has puzzled me. Does it mean a Sata 2 HDD plugged into a Sata 3 port would have problems? - I didn't think so.

Thank you for the replys.............I'll save the money since there is no benefit. I am planning on going to SSD and if that be the case, would the SATA3 be a benefit then?

If yes, what can I use with the slots indicated in the 1st post?
