Solved Need some help regarding file extensions

Could anyone tell me what is the destination of (.lnk) extension. some how its being changed and what ever I want to open from the Start Menu. Its open with the MS Word.

I think I am not able to describe my problem properly but I need help. plz hep me.
Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit
4 BG RAM
CORE i3
1 GB HD GRAPHIC.

Go to this thread http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/19449-default-file-type-associations-restore.html and download the file for lnk (Shortcut link files) and run the file that should solve your problem.
