Hi guys,

This is my first post..Last year, when I was building my pc, my friends suggested to try Win 7 RC for a OS and I did so..Now, as you know the time for Win7 RC is nearing a close..I am planning on buyin Win 7 pro..
My problem is I am really not sure what drives and folders to backup before doing a Win7 pro clean install..I have 2 drives - C: and D: i have a lot of games installed..all of them in D drive..
Os is in C: So I am backing up only the files in the Users folders and the Libraries (the default Windows backup option)..And when I install Win7 pro, I am gonna format only C: and install it there..
So, If i dont backup C and D, would I lose all the games which I installed..will it run after i install the new OS..Of course the save files are backed up as part of the libraries..
What exactly does the default windows 7 backup do..does it backup registry information of the installed programs too..I use this system only for gaming, so am worried a bit..
Please help me guys..i have never done this before..Thanx in advance..

In most cases, programs must be installed, you can't copy programs from one OS to another. Basically, user data (e.g. pictures, word processing files, music, etc), your e-mail address book, I.E. favorites, etc is mostly what you can copy over.

It looks like probably all your games will have to be reinstalled.

Copying the active User file should be enough. I would not import the hidden AppData files if copied, however, as these are a corruption path when used to transfer settings. Programs must be reinstalled anyway.

Many are reporting good results with the workaround to in-place upgrade RC to any retail version. You could try it to use until you have time to clean reinstall, which is always the preferred method: Upgrade the Windows 7 RC to any retail version Icrontic Tech
