Hello all,

I'm running the 7100 build of windows 7 and I've noticed a big change to how i browse around directories..

Now when it says what type of file each file is while in detailed mode, when i have several files all of which are videos, it no longer says which type of video file (mpg, avi, etc) it just says they are all video files.. how can i change it so it says the file type or even the whole file name like name.ext so i have some clue. I tried filename but it only shows the same info as name

go to control panel -> appearance + personalization -> folder options -> view

in the advanced settings untick 'Hide extensions for known file types'

you should now see your .avi or .mpg file extensions etc in the right-hand pane, and in the details bar.

however, once you've selected multiple files, even of the same type, the file extensions are no longer shown. i do not know of any way to change this behaviour unfortunately.

you use the term 'status bar' in your post - this is an extra thing that can be shown under the details bar if desired, but is not that informative...

There is something strange about the status bar behavior. I have 2 PCs with identical versions of Win 7 Ultimate installed.

On One PC when I open the recycle bin the status bar behaves exactly like it did in XP. However on the other even when I click on the "show more information..... " I don't see the total size of the files selected.

What is with M$ and Windows? Why do they fix what is not broken in the name of NEW OS?

If you want to see the free space and file size in the status bar, try Classic Shell: Classic Shell: Features
Be sure to show the status bar (View -> Status Bar) and not the Details Pane (Organize -> Layout -> Details pane).
