When I installed Windows 7 for some reason it installed on C: and D: drive

I need to erase D: and use for data. C: is the boot drive and is used for all windows and applications. I have renamed the windows folder on D: so I know its not being used by windows.

I have tried all the windows and dos commands trying to erase it, but it will not allow it as long as it contains "system" in the definition.

its Local Disk 2, in the attachment, that I need to reformat.

Thanks Leroy Allen

First unplug disk 2, & see if your PC will boot to Windows.

Use clean all on the disk you want to reformat then you can use Disk Management to format the drive.

WIPE A DISK CLEAN

· type DiskPart, Enter key
· type List disk, Enter key
note the numeral of the disk you want to clean
for example purposes, I’ll be using the numeral 2
· type Select disk 2, Enter key
· type Detail disk, Enter key
this info will let you know if you selected correctly
· type Clean ALL, Enter key
your entire disk is being overwritten with zeros.
This can take a considerable amount of time
· type EXIT, Enter key (only after Clean is finished)
· type EXIT, Enter key (this gets you back where you were)

Theog,

I went back and looked at what I had written and I think I failed to mention that one must BOOT from a System Repair Disc.

If the boot files are on Disk 2.
Using your commands with a startup disk would delete the boot files, therefore making OP PC unbootable.

not at all.

Review the thread and you will see that he does not want to clean the boot disk (look at his disk management snapshot) but rather wants to clean the one that If I remember correctly is labeled Local F.
