Now, I did something pretty stupid. All my .sfk files (Which help WMP open all my .mp3 .avi .wav EVERYTHING open) are changed to open with iTunes. This was a stupid mistake, and I don't know how to change the properties to default again. Anyone that knows what to do? Please, tell me all known solutions.

I tried to restore my AVI's and such but it says this "Cannot import C:Users\Sean\downloads\Default_AVI.reg: error accessing registry

EDIT: And other the plus side, I didn't see a restore .reg for .sfk files.. What I did was change the properties of the .sfk file, to where it's opened with WMP which causes it to be an .mp3.sfk which ruins everything..

You may need to run the .reg file from the recovery environment. First, use http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/666-advanced-boot-options.html to choose Repair Your Computer. Then use http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/668-system-recovery-options.html to choose Command Prompt. In Command Prompt, navigate to the .reg file. For instance, if I saved it in my Documents folder and my Windows install resided on D: (it may reside on a different letter for you):
Code:
D:
cd D:\Users\Mike\Documents
regedit.exe /s avi.reg

I'll try that later.. I'm a little stressed by all this. It's just irritating me that I made some stupid mistake, from curiosity. If that doesn't work (Which I pray it will) I might try to reinstall WMP.. Doubt that will work though..

Let's hope, I will edit this VERY reply whether it works or not..

EDIT: Damn it, it still doesn't work. And my .sfk's properties are still trying to open themselves with WMP. What's going on is I changed my properties so my .sfk's are trying to open with WMP, and WMP can't open .sfk's and for the videos/mp3s to work, the .sfk's must be at there normal, default properties.

For now, until you may think of another possible solution (By the way, thank you SO MUCH for atleast attempting to help me! :'D) I'm going to view my videos and such with windows live movie maker.. Not the best thing, but it will help me until I can fix this.

What was the default program for the .sfk files? I did a Google search, and I come up with Sony Vegas or Sound Forge...

Lemme try, once again i'll edit this reply if it works or not.'

EDIT:Nope didn't work.. I guess they weren't originally for sony vegas. When I set it to sony vegas. Windows media player still doesn't open. I feel like the .sfk is a slight reason why WMP isn't working. I really want WMP to work, and I just ASSUME this is the reason..

Okay, let me ask you something, I am trying out this admin program on these very forums that says it puts the properties back to default. I did that, and now its default is iTunes O-o But, there is a "Delete this file type" option.. That apparently erases my .sfk's completely, the entire assosciation with that file.. But you see, my .sfk's were never visible until I got "Sony vegas 7" so.. Would this be a safe choice?

It should be a safe choice. The .sfk files are used by Sony Vegas, so Sony Vegas will still know where to find them and how to use them even if Windows does not know they are used by Sony Vegas anymore.

Also, one thing I neglected to mention: you could try a system restore to before you changed the default file choice. http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/700-system-restore.html and pay close attention to the NOTE: in step 8. of OPTION ONE.

Yeah, but about the System Restore. I don't have a restore point before I made my stupid properties change... I'm just gonna go for it and delete my .sfk's

What the bloody hell!? It worked! The .sfk's are back to normal!! ...But yet another problem. It turns out, this wasn't ever the problem. My Windows media player is the damn problem!!! Let me tell you the story, when I made the change with the .sfk files, at first. MY WMP said "Server execution failed" BUT I fixed it. And my WMP worked! The day after that, I tried to use WMP and it just opens for a mili-second and closes. So the problem wasn't my .sfk's, it was my WMP itself! :O

Just in case someone else stumbles across this thread and has similar problems, is this the tutorial you are using: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/178296-file-extension-type-unassociate.html ?

Please provide us with your Event Viewer administrative logs by following these steps:
  1. Click Start Menu
  2. Type eventvwr into Search programs and files (do not hit enter)
  3. Right click eventvwr.exe and click Run as administrator
  4. Expand Custom Views
  5. Click Administrative Events
  6. Right click Administrative Events
  7. Save all Events in Custom View As...
  8. Save them in a folder where you will remember which folder and save as Errors.evtx
  9. When asked, save the display information in English.
  10. Go to where you saved Errors.evtx
  11. Create a new folder by right clicking in a blank area within the folder Errors.evtx is saved in. You could also click New Folder at the top of the directory under the directory path box.
  12. Name the new folder Errors.
  13. Place Errors.evtx and the LocaleMetaData folder into the new Errors folder.
  14. Right click the Errors folder -> send to -> compressed (zipped) folder
  15. Upload the .zip file here.

Like always, it didn't resolve the problem. But I found within the Windows Media Player folder within my program files. A install .exe, but there is no way to uninstall WMP through the control panel. Should I manually DELETE WMP? And try this? Because, if this doesn't work, it won't get any worse.. It's already not working.
