Need to locate mail contacts from ext.hard drive and reinstall ?

I recently did away with Windows Vista and went to Windows 7. I did a total backup to an external hard drive and now I am trying to retrieve the backed up files pertaining to my windows mail and I am currently using Microsoft Outlook located in Microsoft Office 2010. How do I locate and transfer to current windows mail system and what kind of file extension do I look for?

Just right-click on it and choose to save it - I nicked it off the web somewhere, so help yourself.
