We are trying to get legacy software to work on Vista and Windows 7. Our software could be run by administrators or power users in XP. According to Microsoft, "To use Power Users group on Windows Vista, a new security template must be applied to change the default permissions on system folders and the registry to grant Power Users group permissions equivalent to Windows XP". However, it does not tell me how to configure one or give an example.

Can anyone tell me what I need to do to create a security template that will be the equivalent of a power user in XP? I've never worked with security templates and any help would be greatly appreciated.

What you could easily do is run the software in compatibility mode (choosing Windows XP SP3) and enabling the "run this program as an administrator" option. I can't help with the Power User config, sorry.
