I build a custom desktop for myself and as the local disk become full i tried to move files to my hard drive but after doing that a lot of files and apps just disappeared. Now i just want to restore my comp to factory settings and there's an option to do that with the Windows installation disc. i have the disc but now when i boot it it says i dont have enough space to run it. ive been trying to move or delete files off the local disk but it wont do anything. any suggestions on how to make more space on the local disk so i can re-install windows?

Go to "programs and features" and remove programs you don't need, deleting things like videos and games would help the best though.
I am not quite sure if you can just format the hard drive(clear the whole disk), and then install with the disc. I would think so, but Greg would know better than i do.

You should not be getting that message if you are correctly booting the installer to choose the C partition to reinstall over. Move your data off of the HD, or at least off of C, to do this. Your data should always be backed up externally anyway.

I had just given you a tutorial which shows you how to get a perfect install when you reposted that you were trying again to squeeze in an install amidst your data on the same HD. Did you even read my tutorial? Why are you wasting our time if you want to bumble away without studying the carefully-written steps we give you?

For the cleanest reinstall, move all of your data off, boot the installer, use Custom>Drive Options to delete all partitions, create new as you please or just click Next to let the installer create and format install partition for you.
