Need to separate bookmarks between users on Firefox

My wife and I are on separate user accounts. We have always had our bookmarks on our own accounts. Last week, all of a sudden, the bookmarks joined together on both our accounts. Does anyone know how to get them separated again, what caused this mess would be nice to know so I can avoid this problem in the future. I hope some of you are using Firefox browsers and have some answers

Do you mean separate Windows user accounts?

We have always had our bookmarks on our own accounts.

Do you mean separate Firefox user profiles?
Or do you and your wife share the same Firefox profile?
(Bookmarks are stored in the Firefox user profile. More information about them here: Firefox - Profile Folder and Firefox - Bookmarks)

What version of Firefox (Help > About Firefox)?

We are on separate Windows user accounts. Looks like we are on the same Firefox profile with Firefox 43.0.4
