Need to shrink Partition C

Hi all,

Firstly, apologies if I posted in the wrong section, but this seems to be the most appropriate place for my question. I also apologise if there is a ready made tutorial but I cant seem to find one that uses Partition Wizard.

I would like to shrink my C partition and make the D (data) partition bigger as it seems to me to make sense to have most of HDD space allocated to Data rather than the OS etc.

So my question is two fold.

1) What would be the recommended size for the OS partition, assuming I have no requirement to install any more software at this time.

2) I am somewhat confused as to the exact process to achieve what I want. I have partition wizard home edition already installed, please see my snippet of my my disk layout. Any advice as to the process would be appreciated.

Hi Steve and welcome

1-50 gigs is more than enough for win 7.
2- process is simple but i am not familar with partition wizard. you shrink the OS partition and enlarge the data.

Five us some info on partition wizard and we cn give you more detailed info

The best and only advice I can give you is to back up your system first. Many things could go wrong with this process, including human errors, so make sure your data is safe before you proceed.

I just went for it (as I had a system image) and all worked out OK. It was just a case of dragging the right hand edge of C to the left and then dragging the Left hand edge of D to the left. Partition Wizard took care of the rest and I rebooted succesfully after about 15 minutes.

if this is soled can you check the red tringle on the right and type in solved so it can be marked

Just some additional info: in case your boot partition was to the right, you would probably have problems booting (windows don't like when it "moves"). In that case, you have to run a repair install 3 times and it should fix it.

This is just in case you need to make more changes, otherwise you are good to go the way it is

Partition Wizard is the best automated way to do this.

Right click the Windows 7 partition and Resize/Move the right border back to the size you want Win7.

Then right click on Data partition and Resize/Move the left border given over snugly against the Win7 partition.

Apply all steps.

Any Moving operation needs to first have files externally backed up.
