I was running 32 bit Vista ultimate. I tried installling 7 from a disk i burned from MSDNAA but apparently it didn't work. so I used the Enterprise 90day trial version thinking my product key would work to go to premium. Apparently you can't go there from enterprise so now I need to get rid of enterprise and get 7 professional which I have a product key for. I did a custom/clean? install and used windows easy transfer and have a windows.old folder on an ext HD. I also copied everything using complete pc backup on another HD. so I am pretty sure I have covered my bases as far as saving what I might need. I have my original vista disks and also the ultimate disks but I don't know if I have the product key for ultimate, I haven't checked. but if I am only going back to reload win 7 pro do I need to go to ultimate or could I even use the recovery partition that came on the laptop from dell? last question, do I need to transfer everything now before I go back to vista or since the windows.old file is on my ext HD can I just transfer once I get the correct version of Win 7 installed? I know this is complicated and I have looked every where but haven't found the exact info I need just bits and pieces. Thanks in advance for any help.

Welcome to Seven Forums, mrscullen.

I highlighted your two questions, which are related. The quick answer is that there is no need to re-install anything but the copy of Windows 7 Professional that you want to use.

You can even get rid of the recovery partition, if you want. :)

(Note: If you are using the Upgrade version of Windows 7, you can do either a clean install, custom install, or upgrade install (The links point to tutorials here on how to do each.))

There is no need to go back to any prior version of Windows. If you have a bootable DVD, just go for it.

(If you have just the files from MSDNAA and need to make them into a bootable ".iso" file, there's a tutorial here on how to do that. http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/30470-make-bootable-iso-student-d-l.html)
