Hello Thanks for Reading. Im sure you guys get this a bunch. Need Windows 7 for work.

I represent CHERP SOLAR WORKS a non-profit company making solar panels our of California.

We have special equipment software that requires win7 32bit. Its called a Tabbing and Stringing Machine. Only requires USB2, VGA, and Ethernet. I already have Win7 32 Bit Licenses and keys.

I am looking to build a new faster rig to run the software. Current rig has a i5-4460 3.2Ghz and 4 gigs ram. some chinese mobo. This rig keeps failing and replacements from china are slow and crappy at the moment. I think its a voltage spike or something I will insulate the new rig.

Has anyone had luck running win7x32 on a newer ryzen? Can anyone give advice on some ryzen components?

I am considering putting Win7x32 in a VM as well.

If anyone knows a good and stable way to run windows 7 32 on some modern fast CPUs, that would be great.

Thanks,

Ace

There was a recent thread here about using a modern CPU with Windows 7. The general consensus was to use a Gigabyte or MSI motherboard since I guess those two motherboard manufacturers play nicer with a modern CPU with its BIOS/UEFI in Windows 7. From this thread I bookmarked the following two links in preparation for when I finally build a new computer.

Update your Win 7 installation media

Now about a virtual machine idea. I've always used VMware. VMware Workstation Player to be specific. I've had great success with VMware over Oracle's virtual machine software called Virtual Box. Also, VMware has better USB emulation. Since you indicate you're only using USB 2 it should work out of the box. Sometimes certain things need to be adjusted though. In the case of USB 3.0 emulation, you have to set that in your virtual machine settings where you chose the RAM size, number of CPUs, etc. And I just read that VMware considers non profits a commercial entity. So that sucks. If you use VMware Workstation you can only use version 15 in Windows 7. Anything higher will only work in Windows 10.

New hardware requires some drivers (SATA, USB3.x & NVMe) that are not on the Win 7 installation files. You have to add those drivers to the Win 7 installation files.
There are many drivers for Win 7 on new hardware but they are 64bits.

I would try a VM.

To make the Win 7 iso universal (all versions - HB, HP, Pro & ultimate) apply eicfg_removal_utility
Read the readme.txt
When used on an original Windows 7/8 ISO image, this utility will disable the ei.cfg file, thus converting a disc image into a "universal" disc image.

Pretty much always, you'll want to run 64 bits operating system rather than 32 bits.

x64 systems can take more RAM (without hacks), are more secure and generally faster than their x86 counterparts. Drivers are also easier to find for x64 too.

Microsoft and hardware manufacturers also supporting 32 bits software quite some time ago (Windows 7 server, aka "Windows 2008 R2" exists only in x64 flavor) and so do some drivers too, so try it instead of keeping 32 bits OSs.
