Needed help with Recording Trompet

Hello

I hope u guys have an awnser to this. I have a good condencer mic from MXL and i am recording my trompet with Audacity 1.3. The sound is good and real. I want it to sound a little better a little like this YouTube - KingLaTromba's Channel

but i have no idea how he doues that!
maby one of you guys has an idea how to make the sound better.

Not enough info.

Maybe he uses a better microphone?

Maybe he is a better trumpet player?

Maybe that is Louis Armstrong playing rather than the guy in the video?

Exactly what is wrong with your sound? Audacity is a good product. As long as you are not overloading the meters, it will probably give you a good representation of what you sound like--given your talent, your trumpet, your microphone, and your speakers.

If you listen carfully there are allot of mistakes in the music he/she playes but i just dont know how it sounds so good. is with an echo but i cant tell more. his mic isent the best b you can see that. maby there is a good extra that i dont know of.

I don't know a sharp from a flat--but I have a lot of experience with Audacity.

It has all kinds of features available from the effect menu, from equalization on to much more.

For all you know, there is a million dollar mixing console located just out of camera range in that video.

For all I know, what you see in the video is just a prop.

All I can suggest is to play with Audacity's features.

He/She is usimg a "Hall" reverb on the Trumpet.

You can get close to this sound using the GVerb plugin.

-Set the Room size to 135
-Set the Reverb time to 3.2000
-(can be more or less, this is an approximation of a large concert hall)
-Damping 0.5
-Input bandwidth .75
-Dry Signal Level (all the way to the right 0) or (not quite all the way to the right)
(The dry signal level is the original sound so you really don't want to lessen it too much if any)

-Early Reflection Level -35

-Tail Level -17.5

I did this quickly so you will want to experiment, the YouTube video sound is probably using an expensive Lexicon hardware digital reverb but... you can come surprisingly close using the built in effects of Audacity.

Experiment with the reverb settings I posted.

Also, use EQ to slightly boost the 300-500hz range. Those are low mids and will fatten the sound.
