Any suggestions for a RELYABLE online computer technician? I need some technical support and just can't afford the time right now to be without my computer for days. I probably just need regular maintenance, and someone to look at why the heck my computer freezes up on me constantly when using programs like Publisher and even Word and Outlook… Memory seems to be a problem as well, since I get messages saying I can’t open even a regular Word document, because supposedly there is not enough memory… which is nonsense. Something in the background must be going on, of which I have no knowledge. CAN ANYBODY SUGGEST A RELYABLE ONLINE TECHIE??
Thank you!!!

There are numerous techs here at SF that will be able to help you Maggie51 :)

Have you run the program MalWareBytes Free edition to see if there is any MalWare causing your problems?

Hello and welcome Maggie look I am no expert but there are plenty in here who are - it seems like you have a software problem of some sort.

Just how long has this been happening? oh and did you install the Office yourself or did it come pre installed?

I suggest taking the system to a local reputable shop. Online doesn't provide access for proper hardware testing and diagnostics. Additionally, it can require more time and a higher cost.

Of course, this is my opinion and how I would handle the situation.

Thanks for the replies.

DocBrown, I have run Malewarebyte's Anti Malware (the free addition) and nothing came up. I then ran a full scan of my new Vipre Internet Security this afternoon and it quarentined two issues - both Trojans. I deleted those... will see how things go in the next day... but the computer is still too slow, I'm thinking.

ICit210l - it's been happening only in the last month or so. I've installed Office about 2 years ago myself... and there was no problem at the time.

Maggie Docs suggestion is one I forgot I did this with my brothers machine in the uK just recently and it is just brilliant stuff. The only difficulty with it is if the "fix" you do needs a reboot then it just means reconnecting again.

Just as a suggestion and only that - is save all your data to an external hard drive and uninstall and reinstall the Office. But that is just something that I would do not necessarily what you have to do.

There are tests you can run besides the security scan stuff I am presuming you have Malwarebytes and SuperAntiSpyware on call scanners on board but if not they are worth a try. Both are free and easy to run take very litle time and what have you got to lose?

Malwarebytes : Free anti-malware download

SUPERAntiSpyware | Remove Malware | Remove Spyware - AntiMalware, AntiSpyware, AntiAdware!

DocBrown, the computer IS 3+ years old... which probably is part of the problem. But it has given me great service most of the time. Lately - even before the freeze-up thing started, is has been slowing down - takes forever to boot... probably all the add ware and stuff like that. I've disabled most of the start-up programs, all other than the essencial ones of course. And that has made a diffenence. I used to have Norton on my computer untill about 2 weeks ago, when it showed up the red flag, but scan as I might, Norton wouldn't fix it. That's when I finally decided to get rid of Norton, did some research and found that Vipre Internet Security had very good reviews... so I installed that. Other than that... I've really not had issues... Have been very fortunate so far, I think. I've got an Acer Aspire 6935... and really have loved it. I will go to a new computer only when this one can't keep up anymore.
Thanks for the help.

Maggie look over these steps to Clean Up Factory Bloatware. I'd especially see that you run a Clean Boot except for your AV. Most of us here recommend Microsoft Security Essentials

Then you can Optimize Windows 7 - Windows 7 Forums especially editing Visual Effects of animation, sliding, fading, dragging intact and selection rectangle which hog RAM.

If these don't help a lot then do the hardware tests and these other Troubleshooting Steps for Windows 7 after which you will be much more familar if not the master of your PC.

If you'll report back as you go we can help you further.

If these don't improve things greatly, then install TeamViewer and PM me the ID and password I will connect to look it over for you.

Have missed a few posts I'd say but Maggie sounds like you need to run CCleaner too that will clear out a lot of rubbish too.

CCleaner - PC Optimization and Cleaning - Free Download < free and download from piriform - watch out for the add ons I think from memory one is the Google toolbar:)
