I was using MagicIso & MagicDisc to create .iso & .uif files & mount them, but the 2 programs (not exactly sure which) gave my comfuser problems & it was acting really bad ... I had to format & reinstall.

I've heard of Daemon Tools but have never used/seen it used, will it create .iso files & be able to mount them? This is all I really need. If Daemon Tools will be a good fit, which version will work best on 7 Pro 64Bit w/SP1?

I have an ASUS DRW-24B1ST optical drive & the disc that came w/it has Nero 9, should I install this?

To create an .iso file from a folder tree one way is to use ImgBurn. It gives you a lot of control of file system options.

For mounting here's a list of tools
ISO/Image - VideoHelp.com Downloads

edit: I have used Daemon Tools in the past. But it seems it reached a certain version a few years ago that incorporated some instability. I've seen reports here that problem persists. It may vary by machine though. It might run fine on your machine. Only trying it will tell.

Hi CJW

Nero 9 is OKish but ImgBurn (as MilesAhead said) is good at file system options and the UI is very easy, I use it a lot :)

Nero 9 is an old version. Usually the version that comes with a new CD/DVD burner is a "lite" version, not a full version and may not do everything you want. ImgBurn is current software.

One comment on UDF type discs. UDF is the least reliable burning method and is known to lose format and/or data. If you are going to use UDF discs, make sure you do not have your only copy of data on one.

Thanks for the suggestion, can I also mount .iso files w/ImgBurn?

If not, which of these can create .iso files & mount them as well? Is there 1 progam that can do both?

unfortunately, for powerISO, you can only create or edit images that are below 300mb if you are using the free version, but it can mount and burn ISO images :) PowerISO is the program i like the most out of all of 'em

My asus dvd burner came with Nero 9, my asus blu-rey burner came with Nero 12. You may be able to D/L Nero 12 from the asus web site. If not go with Nero 9, it's a basic burning tool, it gives you some control, like burning speed and that is important. Windows 7 has some burn capability built in.

There are forums for just about anything video related, from format conversion, editing, burning, subtitle creation, players both hardware and software. A great resource. Also it has a great search database for video/audio tools. Some software titles you cannot get anywhere else (such as DVD Decrypter .. precursor to ImgBurn) are archived there. It's probably the best single multi-media resource I've found.

Everyone has their own preferences. I started out with Nero. I especially liked the tool for SVCD menu creation when I was messing around with that format. Very intuitive. But after a time I got tired of doing things Nero's way. So I got into using individual tools for each task in many cases. If you're relatively new to video conversions etc.. there's nothing wrong with starting out with it. But it can create hassles. If you do use it I recommend you not install the InCD portion, if it still comes with that. A headache waiting to happen.

I used Nero 6 Ultimate. But from what I see there's still need for a Nero uninstall tool. Which tells me some of the old problems still remain.

Great link. That's good info for me, I'm video challenged.
