1st a little background: Win 7 x64, 8gb. I was running cable (5/1). We have moved into a condo (temporary). The place has WiFi all set up so if I wanted to be online I had to do something because the machine was set up for cable. After days of research I settled on a Linksys AE2500 USB WiFi adapter. Now the strange part. My iPad 3 gets, on the average, 15Mbs down & 1.5mbs up. Pretty good throughput IMO. Now, when I test my Win 7 machine I get an average of 2.5Mbs down & 1Mbs up. Terrible! Lots of times my browser will time out before a page finishes loading (not acceptable).I haven't tweaked any settings or done anything except to test speed at various times and conditions. My question is painfully obvious, what, if anything, can be done? As always. comments or flames welcome.
Tnx,
Dusty (I just saw that "Nert Speed Issues", LOL that's how frazzled I am

Did it come with a driver CD or did you download the driver from Linksys?

It should be getting a lot better speed than that since it's Wireless N, as long as the router you are connecting to supports Wireless N.

Yes, I used the install disk. I assume that it installed the driver from the CD.
Just 1 point. I use System Mechanic from Iolo to maintain my machine. SM tweaked my internet settings. When I found the speed issues I ran a restore (within System Mechanic, not Windows system restore)
Tnx,
Dusty

What about a system restore to before you tweeked it? See what effect that has.

Interesting. Right after installing the AE2500 my device manager had 2 entries under "Network Adapters"
Intel(R) 82579V Gigabit Network Connection
Linksys AE2500.

I Just checked again and there are 2 new entries,
Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter
TAP-Win32 Adapter V9
Could these have anything to do with my problem?

This morning speedtest.net reported 0.25mbs down! Geeze, this is almost like the old 9600 baud days!
Comments? Suggestions? Lol, I have work to get done and I might be better off using one of the computers at the library, sad.
Tnx,
Dusty

Check Safe Mode with Networking and also another user account.

I read a similar thread here, was saying to disable wireless N mode. Check adapter properties in Device Management for similar settings.

I'm told to delete the Linksys driver and install the Win 7 x64 WiFi driver. Ok, I can do the but where can I find the driver?
Tnx

There was a saying, when I started inIT back in the late 70’s. Hell, they didn’t even call it IT yet. “Look where itcouldn’t possibly be”. The condo we’re living in till the house is ready isjust about the right size for a hobbit family. I can get my wheelchair betweenthe bed and the computer but just barely. If I plugged the WiFi adapter intothe front of the computer I’d break the adapter off. I went to one of ourstarage locker and dug up an olf USB extender wire. Now, I’m clocking in at16.6mbs down &1.5mbs up. I’ve learned a lot the last few days, thank you.Sorry to have wasted your collective time.

Tnx,

Dusty
