Hello,

I downloaded and installed windows 7 (i did the upgrade from vista, not a clean instal) upon its release last night, and now when i start the computer up i get an error that says i need the .NET Framework 2.0. I looked through the computer and i have version 3.5.whatever.

This is pretty frustrating.

Additionally, i get an unknown error when i've tried to install windows live, both via windows update and when i dl the .exe from the website. i am not sure if the two are related or not.

I did the student discount if that makes any difference. Thanks for your help.

I am having the same issue with Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium installed on both my laptop (new, pre-installed) and PC. In my case I tried installing NetFx64.exe with the expected resulting message "This product is already installed as part of the operating system." I have had a good look around and cannot find any reference to this problem other than in this forum.

Can anyone throw any light on this irritation?

I figured out the problem for me. It was that i had a lexmark printer installed and one of the startup programs caused that prompt. If you do have a lexmark printer, run MSConfig and disable "lxdxamon" for the startup programs. The printer will work fine and the prompt will go away. If its still there try disabling lxdxamon.exe, the other lexmark startup program.

.NET Framework version 2.0 required.

My printer, a wireless X6690 AiO prints OK. It is Lexmark Productivity Studio that requires .NET Framework version 2. It will not open and therefore the functionality of the All-in-One is severely limited. Incidentally, the following versions of .NET Framework are included in Win 7 x64 - 1.0, 1.1, 2.0, 3.0 and 3.5.
I came across another instance of this problem in another forum today:
http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/fi-FI/w7itproinstall/thread/5a85344a-c4ed-4360-80fd-17bdb15ee3ab
I haven't had a chance to try the proposed solution because Lexmark Tools for MS Office today caused my Office modules to fail to open and I had to do a repair install of Office. Seems to me Lexmark software is not up to the job of handling Win 7 x64 yet.
The '.NET Framework version 2 required' problem seems to be pretty widespread and not confined to Lexmark. I had a problem with it when installing the TV tuner on my PC. Got round that by running the installer direct from the manufacturer's website. The same tactic does not work for the Lexmark problem.
By the way, it so happens that I also have a Kodak ESP 7 wireless AiO, working perfectly and fully functional. It was bought to replace the Lexmark to take advantage of Kodak's cheaper ink costs. So I have the ultimate answer to hand - but I do hate things that don't work!!!

Another day, another problem. Just noticed that there are 3 Program Files folders on my laptop - Program Files, Program Files (x86) and Program Files (x86) (x86). All contain versions of Lexmark software for the 5600-6600 Series. No doubt this has happened as a result of my repeated attempts to get the printer working, but how do I sort it out without doing further damage?

Added 08/11/2009: Deleted the spurious folder last night with no apparent ill-effects and today found the answer to my .NET Framework problem. I had downloaded the wrong version of the driver file from the Lexmark website.

Thanks Jeff! Hope that those who all bought the Acer Aspire 5538 with the wireless lexmark printer from theshoppingchannel read this. As for Windows7 here we go again with bugs and fixes.

Same problem...here's the fix

I had the same issue ... here is what worked for me:
1. COMPLETELY uninstall ALL Lexmark programs (start/control panel/programs/uninstall
2. Turn your computer OFF (A reboot may work...but I prefer to turn the computer off...wait 20 secs then turn it back on.
3.Download the correct drivers/updates from the Lexmark site. Make sure you get the 64bit version if needed.
4. Install
5. Reboot

You should be good to go!:geek:

Everytime upon startup my ASUS G72gx laptop displays this:"Required System Software Not Installed; Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 is required to continue; This software is available for free download at Microsoft Download Center" I,of course, immediately comply & check the installation integrity of Micrsoft.NET Framework. It is installed. How do I rid myself of the "Required System Software Not Installed" message display, when in fact it is.

This is a common problem. I found the error in my case was using the wrong driver version in Windows 7 x64 for my Lexmark X6690 printer. I have come across references to this problem with other printer makes and models. Suggest you start with checking your printer driver(s). See my other posts under this topic.
