My problem started with the .net framework 4 update not installing. I then did some searches witch led me to Updated: what to do if other .NET Framework setup troubleshooting steps do not help - Aaron Stebner's WebLog - Site Home - MSDN Blogs . I attempted to repair the .net framework which said it succeeded. I then restarted the computer and it froze on the "installing up dates" screen. I let it run for about an hour and then forced shut down. I then went to the next step and uninstalled the .net frame work. This again said it succeeded and I again attempted to restart. I took me back to the "installing updates" screen which again i let it sit for an hour before I forced it off. I then attempted to install the .net framework using the windows installed downloaded from Download details: Microsoft .NET Framework 4 (Standalone Installer). This downloaded fine but when i attempt to run the file nothing happens. it shows up in my processes but no installer actually runs. I am a little lost in what to do at this point if anyone has any ideas please let me know.

Turn off automatic updates. Uninstall .net, and reboot. Disconnect from the internet, turn off AV and other protection programs. Run the Standalone Installer. Reboot if prompted to do so. Remember to turn on protections programs before going online.

Thanks for the reply. However I figured out that the hard drive has bad sectors. That would explain why the computer was acting so strange. Thanks again.
