So I needed to update my .NET Framework in order to run a program and i just downloaded the newest version from the Website. But i got a fatal error during installation. so i researched and somewhere said that could be caused from existing versions of framework on the computer. So i went and uninstalled all other versions, and then tried to install again, but i get the same error. Im not sure if you needed any more info but if you do just ask. thanks

Bad idea. Updates aren't there to make your life harder, but to help solve problems that have been brought to microsoft's attention. Can you install all important updates (including .Net) from Windows Update? It may require you to install prerequisite updates before you can install the particular .net update that you need

I updated it all then went to look at my update history and it said it had installed an update for Microsoft .NET framework and it also shows .NET 4 in my programs but i still cannot run the program. i get the error, "CLR error: 80004005." if that helps at all. thanks. (p.s. I ended up turning Automatic Updates on.)

Ok I uninstalled all previous versions of NET then installed it through windows Update and it still didn't work for my program, so i decided to give up and a few days later i noticed there was more updates for NET waiting to be installed, so installed them and restarted my computer and it wont start  so it takes me to start-up repair each time. but that's a subject for another thread. Anyway thanks for all your help.

otis,

You might consider a clean install. There is something wrong with your computer that I am not sure of, but a clean install should take care of any problems. Save any important files/documents/pictures, etc to a USB drive first.

Please follow all links below to tutorials that may help you with your problem:
Did you try doing the startup repair 3 times? And it still wont let you log in? Try this tutorial: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/139576-startup-repair-infinite-loop-recovery.html
Did you try a system restore? There should be an option to open a command prompt. Use that and type "SFC /scannow" without quotes and let it scan. Then try to log in again.
