Hey folks,
2 days ago I installed windows 7 ultimate on my laptop. I noticed the newest net framework it has is 3.5.
Do I need anything newer? I think the newest version is 4.7.2. If I need to upgrade to 4.7.2, do I need to upgrade to 4, then 4.5, 4.5.1, 4.5.2, etc., all the way to 4.7.2?
Thank you

After you installed 7 Ultimate have you run all the Windows Updates?.

HI Ranger 4, thank you for the reply. The only update I've installed so far is SP1. I'M afraid updating will be a long, slow and grueling process for me because I have heard how Microsoft, with the rollout of windows 10, introduced all of the telemetry and information gathering and even went as far as pushing the telemetry to windows 7 and 8 through updates to those who resist installing windows 10.
So, the only thing I know to do is research each update before I install and try to screen out all the bad ones.
I look forward to your advice.

Hi zombot,

After you installed 7 Ultimate have you run all the Windows Updates?

As Ranger4 has asked, have you installed the Windowss Updates yet?

The only update I've installed so far is SP1. I'm afraid updating will be a long, slow and grueling process for me because I have heard how Microsoft, with the rollout of windows 10, introduced all of the telemetry and information gathering and even went as far as pushing the telemetry to windows 7 and 8 through updates to those who resist installing windows 10.

So, the only thing I know to do is research each update before I install and try to screen out all the bad ones.

There is an easy and much quicker way to do this!

DISM++:

DISM++ is a FREE implementation tool that has the ability to perform Windows Updates. Some of the advantages [but not all] are:

[1] The GUI is very easy to understand and use.
[2] It is much faster than Microsofts WU because it uses a different engine.
[3] It gives you the option of what you want to install.
[4] It doesn’t install superseded updates like Microsoft does.
[5] It warns you of any suspect and Telemetry updates, and any updates that have known issues.
[6] It doesn’t require rebooting between updates.
[7] It can be used to either update an install.wim image offline, or to update the live OS.

This is discussed and explained here >>> Update your Win 7 installation media. It is quite a long thread, but you will see the parts that are applicable!

It is best to run DISM++ a couple of times to make sure you get the updates that are needed. DON'T install the ORANGE ones though [you could just install the ones that DISM++ recommends]. Then just run WU to see what others are available. The .NET Framework updates will get installed.

If you need any more information or help, then please ask!

I hope this helps!

Ok, thank you Paul. I am very grateful for the advice. I am glad I joined Seven forums. I will try DISM++ as you suggested.
It will be several days before I can try it. I am traveling and away from my laptop during the week.

Hi zombot, no problems.

Here is a link to the website. If you are using Google Chrome then just right-click the page and select Translate: Dism++ Windows Utility Documentation.

It really is quite easy to use! If you do need any extra information or advice, then just ask!

I hope this helps!

Hi zombot,

Once you have your OS updated and running the way you like it, make a system image. This way, if things go wrong in the future, you will be able to restore your OS in a very short time. This is because you will not have to install ALL the updates again, not to mention the amount of time needed to download and install them, and the numerous restarts needed. There are two imaging programs which are very popular among members here, the first being AOMEI Backupper Standard [FREE], and the second being Macrium Reflect [FREE].

We can cover this in more detail if you decide that this is an option for you when the time comes.

I hope this helps!

Hey Paul, thank you for the advice. I used DISM++ and everything went great. Ive got it all up to date and I will be checking into AOMEI soon.
One more question. In my reading I discovered a command line program called Ancile for windows. Have you heard of it?
Here is a link to a description of the program. Ancile for Windows | Ancile
