Long story short, a neighbour has a MSI U130 Netbook, and a friend of his talked him into upgrading to Win7 Ultimate however due to the lack of a CD drive this supposed computer tech fresh out of college with a diploma not worth the paper its printed on thought he would be clever and take the drive out install it in his computer and reinstall windows obliterating the recovery partition!!!

while l did get it running under XP lve had problems with the wireless and the lan wont pick up his router (going to try drivers lm downloading now tomorrow) however ld much rather put it back to factory default because ld rather not use my spare OS code on someone elses setup.

so my question is (and this is a longshot), does anyone know where l can get recovery disks for a MSI U130 Netbook without having to pay for it? the machine has its own COE code because the neighbours lm helping out would much rather have it back to what it was originally before their so called friend decided to ballz up everything, just goes to show a diploma means nothing unless you know what your doing.

You best bet is to download a copy of Windows 7 and use the Product Key printed on the back panel of the netbook to activate windows.Make sure you download the same version of Windows 7 as valid for the netbook i.e Windows starter,Home Premium etc.You can download the legal relevant copies of Windows 7 from this site Official Windows 7 SP1 ISO from Digital River « My Digital Life

... the neighbours lm helping out would much rather have it back to what it was originally before their so called friend decided to ballz up everything ...

The only way to achieve that is to "restore" it using media that contains a compressed image used for that make and model PC. And for that, you will have to contact the manufacturer and purchase it.

True, reinstalling using the same version of Win7 will get the OS back, but it will not be the same as it was "originally" ... that said, if it came with a lot of bloatware, it might be better doing it this way, than restoring back to its original state.

this is why l love coming to this forum when l need some new ideas for problems :p you guys think outside of the box and come up with some other ideas l wouldnt have thought of :p

going to try downloading ultimate and running one of the edits noted in the comments

the first step it´s download the Windows 7 ultimate version. The copys of digitalriver are 100% original (crc no have idea) ;)

Only works correctly with the “ultimate” because includes all that other versions contains.

1. Download your adecuate iso … Ultimate x86(32bits O.S) or x64(64bits O.S) (if you don´t have more than 4 gigas of ram it´s better that you download always x32)

2. Download “Ultraiso” whit this you can edit your iso & save the changes. never directly descompress a ISO for save to a CD/DVD or you loss the boot info. use ultraiso for edit.)

3. Open the ISO downloaded with ultraiso and delete the file ei.cfg (\sources\ei.cfg)

4. SAVE the ISO.

5. Now your saved ISO it´s a multiversion Windows 7! Contains All systems in the bit category you downloaded the iso. x86 o x64.

Starter, home, home premium, professional, ultimate…

if it works it will save me allot of effort :) l might even download the 64bit version as well as l tend to be called over to friends to fix their computers and 9 times out of 10 they loose their installation media but have an authentic COA which can be annoying so if this saves me downloading previous versions it will make life easier and waste less disks lol.

its kinda weird but a link to the ISOs shows it should be doable to create a mutli boot disk purely by removing that cfg file.

to be honest ld really like to try the USB method but l need a flash memory stick, or at least one big enough.. l hardly use them so lve only got a couple of crappy 100meg ones maybe l should get that microSD usb reader thingie my mate has got. it acts like a usb memory stick seeing as it worked on my mates xbox updating his dash no reason it shouldnt work for this either.
