Netbooks: RIP?

As far as I am concerned the little pests can definitely be buried alive! Hate the little things, more trouble than they are worth. It is more like a souped up mobile telephone than a computer.

Rest in pieces!

iPhones are about as powerful.

Want to burn your friend's netbook? There's an app for that.

iPhones can't even multitask......so I don't buy them being as powerful.

I used to own a netbook. An acer aspire one AO531h. Pretty much like it when i first got it. Love the portability. But i sold it off to a friend of mine after a few months of usage cause he needs it for his school assignments. :) Oh well....

I don't have one (money!) but see their benefits. Can't figure out why Jobs criticized them so during the iPad conference; well, I can but that's the obvious! lol.

What do folks think about preinstallations of Windows 7 Starter on many netbooks...would Home Premium be better\ I suspect so ;)

I concur. The starter edition just makes the price of the netbook less expensive and causes the user to jump through hoops to upgrade.

Netbooks really don't do much for me to think about buying one. I mean, I have a laptop already. So, why would I need a netbook? To surf the internet? Ehh, seems like a waste to me.

Kill them! I bought one, screwed around in XP, then killed XP for Ubuntu, now it sits unused. It was interesting, but never again. The ultraportable in my specs is faster than some people's desktops (excluding gaming)!

I think one has to be very careful and very choosy when it comes to netbooks; their minuscule size, price and relative acceptable performance can give you a false sense of security when in fact you can purchase laptops for a lesser price with - as one would expect - better performance. IMO, I still see netbooks as over-priced; they were meant to be budgetary purchases and yet now one has to hand over between £350 -£450! That's just crazy!

I deliberately chose a netbook over a laptop for the portability. If fits in the saddlebags of my bike and does not take up half the table in restaurant with wi-fi. It is certainly easier to use online than a cell phone. The Acer has a decent keyboard which was one of our criterion. Performance is adequate; but I surely would not want it as my only computer. I paid $239.00 USD about 18 months ago which puts it below the cost of most laptops.
