The '2' in the names of my W7 network ('Network 2' and 'Local Area Connection 2') have been bugging me in a minor way for several years, so I decided to follow a few threads here and change them to 'Network' and 'Local Area Connection'.
Changing Network 2 to Network was easy enough, but when I tried to rename 'Local Area Connection 2' to 'Local Area Connection' I was told that such a name already existed, so I couldn't use it.
I checked the Registry at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\NetworkList\Profiles and there are two profiles.
Is one of these profiles causing the problem?
