I have a problem. I need to map drive a network from my laptop to my desk computer both running windows 7. The problem is that the program will not run if the drive has a UNC path name.
I cannot map the drive without the UNC name how do I correct this

not sure I fully understand, but I'll have a stab anyhow.

you need to elaborate a little,
are the machines on the same network ?
are they both configured to allow shared files ?

anyhow, you can quickly try to map a drive within windows. which is outside of the programs control.

you can do this from the search box at the bottom of the start menu, just type;

net use * \\{pc name or ip address}\sharedfoldername

so for example on my machine here it would look like this; net use * \\ant-7pc\public

this would "map" a drive which you should be able to reference in the config of your program.

let use know how you get on.

You can't map without UNC path

Depends on how you define UNC. If you are referring to DNS names then yes you can, you can always map by ip. If you are referring to the straight \\server\share then no.

to the OP have your tried mapping \\IPADDRESS\Share

There also was a way once... I dont recall the particulars to map a drive to a folder on your local machine. It would show up like \mydocs\Folder but was really pointing to a network location.

check this out and see if fits your bill.
