network adapter dead?

hey,

so i woke up this morning and the internet was out, or so i thought.

stuff i tried
=========
- i tried clicking on the networking icon in the taskbar and running the troubleshooting wizard and it said my ethernet cable wasn't plugged in. this wasn't true, but the green and orange lights on back of the ethernet port arent blinking at all.

- the ports on my router are fine, i tried it with my laptop

- i tried reinstalling the intel drivers

- going into "control panel/network and internet/network connections", the connection would show up as "Intel (R) Ethernet Connection (2) 1219-V". why the (2)? i only have 1 port on my system. i remember in the past it showed without the "(2)"

- i tried disabling and enabling the adapter in "network connections"

- i tried disabling and enabling the onboard devices in BIOS


going into device manager and right clicking on the adapter, it says it is working properly under the "general" tab, but under any other tab, there is a yellow text box that reads

"This network connection is disabled or has been removed from the system. You must reinstall the driver or enable it from the General tab before you can access disabled features. NOTE: This device supports a low power mode that causes the operating system to behave as if the device has been removed. If the network cable is not attached to the device, connecting the cable may enable it"



after a quick search, some people who have had this problem in the past say its a blown port.. (i really hope not.....)

Open a command prompt and type "ping 127.0.0.1" (without the quotes)

Also try shutting down your computer, router and modem. Then turn on your modem, then router, then computer. Wait about a minute before turning on the next thing. When everything is off, double check the wired connections, I would unplug the wire and then plug it back in.

i already tried cycling power on the router/modem (same box) and restarting my computer

i also tried plugging into another port on the router

no but i tried plugging the same ethernet cable into my laptop and it works fine

The Intel Ethernet connection (I219-V) is what you normally use?
I'm not sure why it says "2". Maybe because you are using a USB adapter?
If you right click it, go to properties, general, what does it show for "Device Status"?

well its the only port i have, so i assume so.

i dont know, but i know it usually doesnt have the (2) in the "network connections" window

In Control Panel, Network and Sharing Center, click on "Change adapter settings" (on the left side).
Does "Local Area Connection" show the number 2? If it does, right click it, click rename, get rid of the "2". Shutdown your computer, remove the USB Ethernet adapter and plug the Ethernet wire back into the port of the PC. Turn on the computer and see if it works.

Did you try it with only the wired connection? Unplug the USB adapter and set it aside.

yup, i unplugged the USB adapter for that

Google search for "connection failed with error 651"

There might be a setting I haven't thought of.

i read up on this page and tried resetting the network stack with "netsh int ip reset reset.log" in cmd but it dodnt work.

i also tried booting into safe mode w/ networking, toggling IVP6 and clearing CMOS but it didnt work either

Is that what you typed in the command prompt?

Make sure you are using the command prompt as an administrator.

Have you tried another cable? Have you tried the adapter in another computer?
