Yeah in that video since the router has no lights it means the port is not even responding to signals it's fried

That's what I suspected. I still suggest that you go through the BIOS settings and see if it is disabled or reset the settings to the default. If it is dead that isn't the end of the world. It would cost too much to replace it. You can get a card to replace it.

Yes, it is a good thing that you have the replacement plan and your assumptions seem correct, but, be prepared for some delays as the wheels of progress can move slowly.

1.) Does the plan offer to send you parts or must you send the PC in for repair, you'll find out when you call customer service.

2.) It should work okay after windows recognizes the board and completes the install. I would do a restart after windows finishes up.

3.) And no, no OS reinstall will/should be required.

I say #1 because I have a 2year no cost "direct replacement plan" on my new laptop, but I have to send it back with a RMA for work.

nope, the plan is as it sounds, a direct replacement. you bring them your broken component and they give you another one off the shelf (presumably new and not swapped by other ppl) on the spot

That's great, sounds like you're dealing with a local shop, I got mine from a "big box store" - Office Depot/Max Link goes to details page of my PC. A month ago it was on sale for $399 and the 2year protection was $70. Big selling point for me was it came with an optical drive.

Replacement should be easy enough, have the tools?

• Make sure the system is properly shutdown, pull the power cord and ethernet cable to the card, hold the start button down for about 10seconds to get rid of any residual power.

• Take the side cover off the case, touch the case to ground yourself off.

• Swap the cards, don't forget to replace the mounting screw if it has one, put everything back and fire it up.

• Let windows find it and ask to install, follow the prompts, finish up, reboot and test.

#4 in the drop-down list shows an itemized picture of the layout. The NIC port is on the upper left side of the MB. Looks like the card is underneath that white protector so it might be a tad difficult depending how it's attached, there might be screws or clips on the opposite side,

I looked through the MB manual and the only reference to the port is section 1.7 page 1-21, I didn't see any mention on how the port is swapped out.

Just take your time and think things through, if you get frustrated walk away for awhile.

hopefully there arent any "hardware identifiers" that will mess with the swap
meaning lets say for arguments sake, the drivers were originally installed to a piece of hardware with name "ABC"
now i swapped the board and the new hardware, though same model, is now named "DEF" and the existing drivers have a conflict with the new "DEF" hardware

hopefully im just overthinking

Doesn't hurt to overthink. I would think that doing a swap with an identical port wouldn't cause problems even with a different prefix, if your worried about the drivers just uninstall the old ones before you start then during the install windows should ask if you want to use its generic or yours that came with the port, click for yours. The main devices windows looks for are the MB and HDD but check with the store rep, if s/he doesn't know try to get a hold of someone on their geek-squad.
While your at it ask about that white cover piece I hope you don't need a special tool to remove it maybe you can borrow one from them if it does.

Worst case is you'll have to call windows phone activation and everything you need to know is here: Activate Windows 7 by Phone Read this over before you start there's one part in the note box that explains about hardware changes.

It's quite likely that Windows already has the drivers built in. Vista and higher have a lot more native drivers than XP. Windows will grab the appropriate one and install it. You would probably have to install drivers for a wireless adapter but all the necessary ethernet drivers are built in to windows. Speaking of wireless, if you have to buy a card you might want to go wireless since your modem is in another room and has wireless built in. I recommend a usb dongle rather than a internal card if you wish to go that route.

To anyone who's gotten to the last page of this thread and still havn't had the issue resolved. Going to device manager > network adapters > Intel(R) Ethernet Connection (2) I219-V > properties > Advanced tab > Wait for Link > set "Value:" to "Off" worked for me.
