To fix this type of problem what usually works is to shut down the PC, unplug the power supply and then bleed off the extra juice by pushing the power on button. Wait one minute then plug back in and power it back up. Windows should see the adaptor now.

Definately hasn't been detected. Lets not discount it could be DEAD. Do a reset like chev said, then try and see if you can get the latest driver from the manufacturer site and install it.

I know this is a super old post, but I wanted to thank chev65 for this - my <censored> PC did exactly this - the network adapter completely disappeared for no apparent reason from Device Manager in Win 7 and I was ready to drag the PC down the block... I have been out of town since Sunday and wasn't sure exactly when this had happened. I had already tried rebooting and system restore and removing a MS update that might be suspect and no joy. I found this post in a desperate Google search. I did as chev 65 said - shut it off completely, bled off power and waited, then started it up again. All fixed! <happy dance> :D I don't see a scale on the post to give rep points, or I certainly would. Thank you so much!!!

That's good Planetsuze, I'm glad this old thread is still helping people solve these types of problems.

Sometimes you have to clear the cmos to fix these sorts of things, other times just manually reinstalling the device works, shutting down unplugging and bleeding off power can fix all sorts of strange problems so figured it was worth a shot.

The scale is gone because this thread is outdated but thanks for the nice comment. :)

Hi guys, I'm also having the same issue with the laptop i'm using. By the way It's Sony Vaio Y series (VPCYB35AG) running Windows 7 32-bit Starter Edition. At first for few minutes(like 2-3mins) i'm able to see the Wireless connection adapter and I can connect to wireless connection. And also in the Network and Connections window, I can see the Manage Wireless Connection button. After a few minutes it would just disappear and I could not connect to wireless connection anymore. I also checked on the device manager and i cannot find the Atheros adapter. It's also noticeable that the Wireless light won't lit up given that the wireless switch in the laptop is ON. I already re-installed the Original wireless lan driver, but still it won't appear in the device manager.

I really appreciate your help on this.
