I am unable to create a true network bridge. I believe the problem is that whenever I plug an ethernet cable into my computer, my wireless shuts off. I was wondering how it would be possible to have both cable and wireless internet at the same time, in order for the bridge to be successful.

Hi, and welcome to SF.

It shouldn't trigger your wireless to disconnect when you plug in your ethernet. Your ethernet port and wireless port are totally different.

I have no probs bridging my wireless with my LAN connections whatsoever.

Well, this is a laptop given to me by my college. They set it up with everything, and I am personally under the impression that they somehow have made it so you can't have both connections at once in order to lesson stress on the school servers. I am trying to undo this though, mainly for internet access at home. I need to know how where to go in order to change this setting.
