Hello,
I'm experiencing a strange issue. I have 3 pc with windows 7 and about 15 with win xp. In 2 of the 3 pc with win7, when I try to browse the Network, I see only the pc with windows 7. In the 3rd pc with win7 I see correctly all the computers in my lan (same behaviour if I use the pc with xp). I have tried to disable windows firewall, but... no good results. All the pc are managed by domain controller with windows 2003.

Can anyone help me?
Thank you

well ovbiously all your pc's are on the network, or the pc's that can see them all wouldn't be able to see them, have you tried pinging one of the "invisible" machines from a machine that cant see it?
this will help track down exactly where the problem lies

example: Win 7 pc cant see XP PC1, so you attempt to ping it to see if there is an active connection

You need to just modify the "host" file... it basically is like a shortcut for the windows program

Hello,
I think that this issue is not related to host file... it has the default settings.
Bytheway I have an additional information: the issue is random (but affects only win7 and vista), for example this morning all the pc sees correctly each other in network folder. Anyway in 1 case (a laptop with windows vista) the issue occurs in a first time. Then, after few minutes, it shows again all the pc in the network.

Perhaps it should be an incompatibility with win2003 server domain controller?

The 2 machines that are giving you problems... Are they on "Home Newtwork" in your Control Panel -> Network and Sharing?

The thing is that Home Networking (Homegroup) uses ipv6 when possible and a different network enumeration method. Microsoft is famous for re-inventing the wheel and they did it again... with one of the more crucial parts of modern computing.

When you have mixed operating systems on the same network you will need to switch over to Work Network (Workgroups) and then set up you advanced sharing options to enable network discovery, disable pasworded sharing and use user accounts and passwords for logins on other computers and then join your domain... XP style.
