Network cable not found

I am currently in a bit of a pickle

The problem is as follows: I have been using a wired connection succesfully for a number of years to the same router ( Belkin 54g ) and although there have been issues before it was still working as usual.

Then suddenly out of the blue one day my computer wouldn't pick up my wired network connection. I have been able to get it to work again somehow and seemingly random times but when my router is reset ( the connection is lost ) the problem returns and im left scratching my head and restarting the network device again ( which did work once. )

what I've tried so far:

I have disabled my network card ( built into my mother board ) and replugged in the cable about 50 million times

I have tried the cable in my laptop and it works perfectly.

I have unplugged, replugged the cables into my router and restarted it quite a few times.

I've tried using an belkin wireless ethernet bridge I had laying around which was detected.

Because of what I have tested I can only lead myself to beleive its either a driver issue or windows issue and I havent foggiest what.

Any help would be appreciated!

Go into Device Manager. Do you see the card? Is there a little yellow sign with an exclamation point on it? If so, it's a driver issue and you should uninstall and reinstall the device by right clicking on it.

Ports can go bad on routers too - try a different port. And try another cable just in case something is loose in one of the connections. Those cables are very low tech - and inexpensive, and can only be yanked and tripped over so many times.

Nope it shows its fine in the device manager.

Tried different ports with no success.

Contact Belkin customer support. They are really good. My router quit connecting all of a sudden a few months back, and I called and we did some troubleshooting and it didn't work.

They sent me an RMA and replaced it with no more questions and didn't even ask for a receipt. I think the one they replaced was about 3 years old.

I would vote to reinstall the driver for your onboard NIC just incase.

Sometimes the mobo drivers can cause issues, what's the model number?

On-board NIC facility gone bad? Add a PCI NIC card? or if laptop a wired ethernet USB port?

If network capability just tanks and you had no weather or pet event, it's usually the NIC gone bad.

Unplug and replug the LAN cable, but this time watch the LED indicator on the port, when you plug the LAN cable, it should light up almost instantly. If it doesn't light up (or take a long time before lighting up), then you may have a bad port...

Agree with zzz2496, check the basics first, LED's flashing etc.

Try another peice of hardware, like a PCI card LAN (NIC) and see if that works, if you don't have one, try ring a shop around that does custom PC's and see if you can come in and borrow a card for 5 mins in their shop if they have any spare, they are very cheap these days however.
