Card is a 3com pci card - 3Com EtherLink 10/100 PCI NIC (3C905-TX).

Now, I have just decided to go 64bit, and all is installed driver wise aside from this card.

So, I have just downloaded a 3c90x1.exe package, (the site I have it from suggests it is 64bit compatible), but when I try to run the exe i get an error suggesting that it is not compatible with the version I am running.

Can anyone offer any suggestions on this please. or a location for a verified working 64bit driver?

Build is 7229.

TIA!

Compatible with the version of windows (windows 7) or compatible with this version 64 bit.. Try installing it in xp compatibilty mode. If no joy then get 64 bit version. If no 64 win 7 try 64 bit vista driver.

Hope this helps and if not let us know

Thanks for reply Ken,

I believe the errror was windows 7 incompatible. But I have been using the nic on 32bit windows 7 up till now; I have tried in XP compatibility - still no joy; same error. I have had this driver for years lol - worked with all versions of windows previously.

Any ideas?

this is th nic driver you are having problems with right? Have you tried vista or xp drivers. the 3com site says that the card is a 2002 card and is discontinued. Try running the installer in compatibility mode.

Real strange one this; although the site that I have downloaded the driver from says it is 64 bit capable (no mention of 7 though) it just will not run.

Tried all compatibility modes; still no joy.

You still having problems? You might want to install rtm (its supposed to be leaked this weekend) as a clean install. If you upgrade you might continue to have the problem.

Is the file a .msi file by any chance? If so you can use Orca and change the setting to allow it to install on whatever OS you prefer. It is probably just doing a version number check of the OS and panicking when it does not find what it is looking for. It should work though.

Ken,

Gave up on 64 bit drivers for it presently; as you said, the card is well old now - so have to at least invest in a newer card anyways.

Have always done clean builds too - presently downloading 7260 iso, that will work, 32 bit driver is in the build by default so that's ok. Will certainly try the 64bit rtm when available to see if it solves the issue.

Many thanks for your help though Ken.

Sean.

Just noticed you said the driver is 64 bit compatible. Seems strange that it is 64 bit compatible. Sounds like its not 64 bit but could run (maybe 32 bit) because it is compatible. Sounds weird to me

Ken,

Exactly, but as per the screenie post further up; I think it's the OS version that it doesn't like - although the driver installs fine and dandy on 32 bit 7!

Bizarre eh!
