Hey everyone,
Been awhile...
So i have a perplexing issue i cannot seem to concor. My mother recently bought a dell inspiron 3531 and it had windows 8. She hates it and so do i, so we bought her a windows 7 key and she is on her way, or so we thought. I installed windows 7 ultimate, clean install, on her laptop. Installed all the drivers, ran windows update, did the whole 9 yards. One issue remains though and it is ruining this laptop for her (she can be picky at times)...
Whenever I close the lid on the laptop, it goes to sleep. When i wake the laptop up, the wireless network has a red X on it, saying no connections are available. When i try to run troubleshooter, it tells me to turn on the switch for the wireless card (there isn't one on her laptop). I use the function key to try and turn it on and it has no response. They only way to get it working again is to do a restart of the laptop. I have done all the stuff mentioned above. I have also tried to mess with the power options, but i dont know if i am missing something. Any and all hints and tips would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks everyone,
Ben

Hi NeverhaveMoney,

Have you tried turning on or enable the FN Keys on the BIOS Set-up.?

Hi there,

In addition, wondering if the laptop has a wireless utility program installed? Do you have the latest wireless driver installed?

Also, temporary disable the Bluetooth and see if if helps.

I have also tried to mess with the power options, but i dont know if i am missing something.

Did you uncheck the "Allow this computer to turn off this device to save power" option under the adapter's configuration settings?

Hi NeverhaveMoney,

So originally i had enabled these in the BIOS setup. When i went to go use them though, they would not work. I had to go do something, and left the computer alone long enough for the display to shut off. When i woke the display up, i tried the function keys again just for S&G. When i did this, they worked, and the network function key solved the issue. I don't know how or why it worked, but it has been working for ~10 sleep/wake-up cycles now.

Thanks for the tip ShoTTas
