Network connect/disconnect over and over

Hello, tonight I installed Windows 7 Service Pack 1. After the installation I see there's a cross over my network connection. But it keeps trying to connect. It's like you plug in cable, disconnect cable, every 5 seconds or so. But it never manages to fully connect. It gets to the state "identifying" then cross comes back.

I have tried 2 other network cables, none of them worked either. So I've tried reinstalling network drivers but didn't work either. Though Im not sure if I fully uninstalled drivers, cause network icon stayed in taskbar even when I thought they were gone. I really can't get my fingers on what's wrong here. I want to think easy and that the network adapter is broken. But it just can't be, it all happened directly after win 7 service pack installation must have to do with that.

And btw if I look behing computer on the 2 LEDs the orange one is flashing every 5 seconds or so as well. (green's not lit).

ASUS P7P55D - with Realrek network adapter (don't know exact name).

Still same problem after a nights sleep, this problem is driving me mad - someone help me!

May add, I tried running an ubuntu live cd - and bingo network now green and router showing it's connected with something. So it's in Win 7 it have somehow shutdown that particular hardware.

Really weird, after I had runned that Linux Live cd (when I saw network adapter worked properly) it was like it "kicked up" the network adapter again. And I restarted the computer while babysitting router seeing that green light still being lit. When I was in Win 7 loginscreen I see that green light flashing quickly, I then knew it's working again. And it did work

But Im very afraid if this happen again, Im still not sure what made it work again so. Any help on this problem would be nice.

Hi,

Can you check your network activity using Task Manager? Does it look normal to you, or is there a high degree of network activity?

What anti-virus and firewall software do you have installed?

Also, please fill out your system specs fully.

I have no external anti-virus software, using win firewall and windows defender. Now I have an old problem I had before, I have to go to Network adapters and disable then enable my network adapter. Cause it starts up with a yellow sign on it, like it cant retrieve the IP. But disable enable trick works, but would be nice if it was connected when I logged in at start.

Network usage shows as usual, peak 0.00 to 0.04 or something when idle.

I noticed one more thing now my connection got a "2" after it's name now. Realtek Family controller 2 and Local Area connection 2...No idea why, maybe when I screwed with drivers all night long.

Please fill out your full system specs.

Is your network adaptor integrated into the motherboard, or is it a separate network card plugged into one of the PCI-E slots?

Hi I have:

Intel Core i5 750
ATI Radeon hd5970
2x 2GB memory

Motherboard ASUS P7P55D
The Realtek adapter is integrated in the motherboard

And as you know my problem is solved, the new problem is I have to disable then enable my adapter to get an ip adress. I had this problem long ago in win 7. But it solved itself after a while. Hopefully it will do now too, but a fix would be nice.
