Network Connections Empty

Hello All,

I have an issue where I have a red X for my networking in the system tray and my Network Connections is blank and empty. I am able to connect fine to the internet and access to network resources. I need to make adjustments to my NIC cards but they are not visible. They are in device manager and are reporting working fine.

System:
Windows 7 Ultimate x64
RealTek onboard NIC’s
Latest Bios and NIC Drivers

Here is what I have done so far:

Re registered the following dll’s:
regsvr32 netman.dll
regsvr32 netcfgx.dll
regsvr32 netshell.dll
I even unregistered them and the re registered them.

Removed VMWare Workstation

Uninstalled and reinstalled NIC Drivers

I checked the registry and verified that ClassManagers entry was correct:

I ran sfc.exe /scannow

Check DCOM settings were correct

Still the Network Connections are not visible. I have looked over the net for solutions but have found none so far… any help or a point in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.

Most likely the red X is showing you that one of your eithernet connections is unplugged. You should be able to go into your network adaptor settings and disable the network adaptor that relates to the red X.

There are 2 NIC's, one is in use and one is disabled through Device Manager. When I open the same dialog box as you mine is blank. So that is more the issue. Thank you chev65 for the reply and the screenshot.

I'm pretty sure the one that is disabled though Device Manager is the same one causing the red X to appear but I can't say why your working connection isn't showing up in the network connections window. Maybe try enabling the non-working connection again or try rolling the driver back and foward again to see if it changes anything.

Windows 7 Pro, 32-bit, intel mb dg35ec.
I'm having the same symptoms, nothing showing in the Network connections window and the network icon on the Task Bar has a red X, though it does connect and I can access the internet and my network. I've tried removing all cards and different memory sticks, the mb has 1 nic.

I did find that Windows 7 update KB2345886 has failed and I've yet to find a fix for that.
