Network drives are accessible but still have red X

After coming back from an extended holiday it appears that all my network drives are working fine; unfortunately all the network drive icons still have the unable to reconnect to network drive icon with the red X.

How can I fix this problem?

I appreciate any responses.

A. Which version of windows7 are you using?
I would suggest you to check the settings for mapping the network drive with windows7.
When you create a shortcut to a shared folder or computer on a network (also called mapping a network drive), you can get to it from Computer or Windows Explorer without having to look for it or type its network address each time.
1.Open Computer by clicking the Start button , and then clicking Computer.
2.Click Map network drive.
3.In the Drive list, click a drive letter.
You can choose any available letter.
4.In the Folder box, type the path of the folder or computer, or click Browse to find the folder or computer.
To connect every time you log on to your computer, select the Reconnect at logon check box.
5.Click Finish.

In other words, there's a solution for Vista but not one yet for 7 from what I can tell. My best advice would be to contact microsoft in regards to this issue.

In general this is a wireless network driver problem. This TechNet post below shows someone fixing the exact problem by updating the wireless drivers. Your macbook could also be part of the problem, lots of people with similar complaints.

Thanks for the replies, if it is a wireless network driver problem then there probably isn't much I can do because when I got back I had a message saying that Realtek will not make a fully compatible Windows 7 driver for my MacBook and asked if I would like to get a new WLAN card. I'm not having any problems (bar this) with the current driver so I won't complain too much.

My PC is however almost permanently plugged in via Ethernet now-a-days which would make me wonder if it is a WLAN driver problem, however I've figured out how to get the drive icons back to normal; it's not the best solution but its good enough for me.

Usually I access my network drives directly by saving to and opening from them within a program or in the unlikely occasion I have to access them via Windows Explorer I just type the full drive path, but if I go into Windows Explorer and double click on the drive icon it seams to fix the icon.

I think I can live with this work around and thanks for showing me that this is a common problem; I'll mark this solved.
